I must admit to being rather jealous of what Charlton and and Spurs are building, more to the point how they're building it. Buying young talent (who is financing Spurs, just Levy?) and building for the future. Bolton and Brum have bought talent, but older talent and I'm not sure if they'll be as succesful in the long term.

Anyway, I hope JM studies what Charlton and Spurs have done andenacts a carbon copy for our club!!

I am quietly impressed with goings on at the Hawthorns - they are giving themselvs every chance of a longer stay in the prem.

Hopefully that's what's in place with the Youth Academy at Wolves and producing our own.

charlton, boro, blues. if boro can play in europe so can we!!

Manitoba Wolf

I'm not sure if I'd choose Boro's blueprint, they've spent a tonne of money for not much success.

What happened to the 2 young Derby players they bought a couple seasons ago, wasn't one a defender, Riggot, and the other a forward, I forget his name?

How much did they spend on Ricketts!!?? £7mil was it!!?

Manitoba Wolf
01-09-2005, 15:32
Malcom Christie was the forward,3 million, Riggott for 2 million and Ricketts lists at 3.5 million

Malcolm Christie. Spotted by Derby (again</span>) playing non-league (I think for Tamworth or Nuneaton), had a day job stacking shelves in a supermarket.

who are these genius Derby scouts?

As I mentioned earlier today, lets get those Derby scouts signed up, seriously......

5 years from 1st division to the europe? not a bad record. admittedly they havent been 100%wise with all their signings

boltons blue print is fine for the size of their club. SA in the long run would like to bring some quality youngsters to the club but is in an extremely competitive catchment area, the biggest likelihood of attracting young players is giving them the opportunity to play first team football alongside international stars like Okocha, Campo, Nakata and Ben Haim- thus he is building the club up that way. By helping veteran journeymen enjoy their football again he builds the club slowly but surely, improving every year.

Some if not all these clubs have very heavy debts, Bolton for one can not afford to fall back and that is why some of these clubs are being backed, bit like the channel tunnel, banks were told give us more money to stay in business or we will fold and you will lose millions and they had too. I believe FA/FIFA will step in soon and prevent clubs from borrowing too much, limit what they can pay players as a % (like they do in the lower leagues), So the clubs whose debts are high will have to make big changes.

Couldn't agree more Manitoba. In theory we could have bought Davies for £3m we have the money and we need a long term partner for Lescott. Why not slowly accumulate class youngsters like this and do a Spurs (albeit at a lower level). That is why I was keen on Bentley and, dare I say it, Welsh.

Ricketts looks like a good young 'un for the future but we need many more to supplement a very useful homegrown batch of youngsters coming up. Somehow our club never quite gets this message. Perhaps the fact that West Brom may be heading for Prem consolidation on the back of getting in the likes of Kirkland, Ellington, Davies, Chaplow, Carterand perhaps eventually Richardson, will eventually wake our managership up, but I doubt it.

I seem to remember the Wolves scouts on CM2003 being worse than poor.

Very realistic - congratulations to the programers

This argument is a bit strange for us to start talking about WBA consolidation, I would have thought we would need a team to get us out of this league first and then talk about players who could keep us there.

Remember Kevin Keagan saying, after another signing, how pleased he was that he finally got rid of the players who got him promoted and now had a squad to keep Man City in the premiership.

We have a great youth system, but our resources must be geared to promotion

G-Wulf

It's the same at every level though Pad. Even with junior players, scouts from clubssuch asShrewsbury, Stoke, Blues etc are coming here and snatching the talent that Wolves can't even see right under their own noses.

The scouting situation is bordering on the farcical in my opinion.

I always used to send chief scout George Foster to scandinavia to find me some players but he always recommended me $$$$$.

I sent him to Africa and he weren't a lot better there

I sent him to Portugal - needless to say he recommended a shower of $$$$$e and only came back with 3 names after a month there. I suspected it was down to a few rounds of golf with his old mucker the inept one.

I'd have to agree with Charlton

Fulham were a team like us who splashed the cash and achieved promotion
but, haven't made a huge amount of progress in the past couple of
seasons. Although they have got a good keeper at the moment and played
well against Arsenal (until the equalised and whooped them)!

I did once send to to watch javier saviola at river plate- he said "he
doesn't see him improving the team, and would not be worthwhile signing
him." Tit. I brought him anyway and as i thought he was the man.

Bolton, Charlton, Middlesborough, Birmingham. We should have the potential eventually to eclipse these clubs but they key is our young players. For the first time for many years we seem to have a lot of potential in that area. When did we last get anywhere near the youth cup semi-final

I believe FA/FIFA will step in soon and prevent clubs from borrowing too much. This might involve limiting what they can pay players as a % (as they do in the lower leagues). Therefore, clubs that are in debtwill have to make big changes.

It pains me to see the players albion are signing, if they survive this season then i can see them staying up for a while.
