View Full Version : top 50 managers

Surprisingly, no stan cullis in there. For a manager who built a team that would probably won the european cup if it had been around to be left out of the top 50 managers is criminal.

Don't be too surprised. It's like Billy Wright, if he managed a London club....

Saw this a few days ago. Equally Herbert Chapman seems to have been totally ignored. Some of those listed achieved nothing compared to those two managers, and many others who've been over-looked.
Par for the course with lists like this though really.

Exactly. How many times is he mentioned in an 'Englands greatest whatever...' type discussion? He suffers from playing in a pre-tv age, not winning the world cup, not being a 'character' and not beating his wife.

Have to say, every time I've been to Wembley so far since it reopened it galls me walking up Wembley Way seeing that statue of Bobby Moore.
Billy Wright was the first player in the world to win over 100 caps for his country, still holds the record for captaining England, is a player that everyone has heard of, yet gets no credit whatsoever by anyone outside Wolverhampton/at a push the Midlands.

Don't know a great deal about some of the people on that list, but Mr Cullis does seem to be a glaring omission. revie out, Mr Cullis in.

Marcello Lippi only 17? Can't understand why Mourinho is so high up either.

It is a post-war list, so Chapman is not in there.
Agree about Cullis though

Re Billy Wright and SIR Stan Cullis not being recognised outside of the Midlands. I also read this week that Bobby Moore was the youngest ever England Captain at 22 years old. Seem to remember reading that Stan Cullis was 19 when he captained England. Also Fergie getting Knighted for winning the Champion's League need I say more ?????

According to Wikipedia, Cullis didn't make his England debut until two days before his 21st birthday, so it looks like your memory might be playing tricks, Dewsbury Wolf. However, the war started before Cullis turned 23, so he can't have been any older than 22 when he captained the national team. Perhaps there were only days or months between him and Bobby. Somebody out there will have the facts, I'm sure.;)

I can't get it to work but what is th betting there is a large West Ham representation in there?
It's shocking that Cullis isn't there but is anyone actually surprised?

No Hammers, and to be fair, only ten Brits, the inclusion of none of whom I can really find fault with. Some of the foreign choices are strange though: Menotti and Bianchi in particular, who were rotund failures outside of their own country.
it still seems a disgrace he isnt in there somewhere. Mind you i`ve looked at the hard man thread and there is no mention of eddie clamp anywhere in there either. Basile boli is number three FFS.
