Yeah it said in the programme on Saturday that a minutes applause will be held. Will be a feature in the programme too.

I can't stand the minutes aplause thing(i will still join in), i think silence is much more appropriate and heartfelt.

I didn't think much of it until Grays, when the fans turned it into a minutes applause of their own backs.
It meant much more that way and it was quite touching.

The applause is better IMO, especially for sporting heros.
Rather than mourning, it's more of a celebration of their life and achievements, of which an applause is quite apt.
It also removes the threat of the idiots who have no respect and shout and bleat during such moments.

I agree with you Flitwick but whether a minute's silence or a minute's applause, the main thing is to remember a Wolves legend. For the record there was spontaneous applause when his hearse arrived outside Molineux on the day of his funeral.

I prefer the minutes applause to the silence. When Jim Baxter (Rangers & Scotland) died Celtic had to observe 3 consecutive minutes of silence The day he died coincided with a game at Parkhead, then the SFA ordered one the following Saturday, then the following week we went to Ibrox for the Old Firm game, their first home game after the death. The rumour was as Jim was an alcoholic there was one for each of his livers (all impeccably observed). The minutes applause came in for Jinky Johnston which I though was a lot better. Although the roar of the crowd after the silence is pretty good.
Shame no one in the upper echelons, of the present WWFC, could not have attended Saint Peters on the day.

When you are posting on the Celtic forums do you refer to Wolves as "we"? ;)

Agree all the way.
There is somthing so moving and heartfelt about thousands of people standing in complete silence that can reduce grown men to tears.
The clapping is just a Di thing, along with all them bloody flowers.
Let's get back to our roots and tradition.

I don't go on the Celtic Forums:)
My whole family comes from Glasgow, I was brought up in the Midlands, I don't have a problem supporting both Wolves and Celtic, I have a season ticket for each team, although this season 99% of the time I will be at Molineux, It was 50/50 last season. I suppose its where you come from, its never been a problem apart from a few on here who seem to take exception to it. Yammer does the same thing Wolves/Rangers and is just as passionate.
I love watching football and try to watch as many games as I can, including trips to Europe, Lorient/Lens/Tolouse/Barca/PSV are but a few, in fact over the last few years French Football has been my favourite to watch, technically very good and a relaxed atmosphere, it doesn't make me any less of a Wolves supporter, since I completed my coaching qualifications in 2001 seeing the game at different levels has been a good thing. Its also nice to watch a game without the emotion/stress that comes with watching Wolves.

I might not have put it in those words, but I agree wholeheartedly.

Bah, humbug! The applause is just recognition of the fact that in these disorderly attention deficit days, where every available piece of personal space has to be invaded by iPods, mobile phones, cold callers, BB8 live feed etc no one can shut the $$$$ up for even a minute!

So, advances in technology & communications cause behavioural problems?
I think it's just ignorant people being selfish.
Or, indeed, the selfish being ignorant.
Derek Dougan loved the adulation he received from the crowd... the noise, the chants, the applause. Horses for courses I think - the minutes silence for Billy Wright was one of the most moving things I've ever experienced, but to recreate the crowd noise for the Doog one last time seems very fitting.

I guess the applause drownds out the morons that cheer part way through also it celebrates the life not mourns the death IMO

So, advances in technology & communications cause behavioural problems?
That wasn't the point being made, but it may be true if simple human face-to-face contact & parenting are replaced by XBoxes, mobiles, the private world of the walkman/iPod & round the clock Big Brother. I'd say the neglect & abdication of familial & community relationships, responsibilities & concerns in favour of reliance on certain superficial & excess technological developments has had a significant role to play in the rise of the sociopath.
The minutes silence is not a depressing gesture it is extremely positive and true hombrence for us all individually to pay respect and recognise. It is respect for a man not a cheapening carnival. I wont cheer or clap like i didn't with George Best i'll just dedicate a minute of my time in true recognition of the DOOG who sadly i never saw and i hope he'd appreciate that. Political Correctness gone mad.

Which is what makes it more special, the silence can be really emotional and respectful and the roar that follows is inspiring.

Sometimes the minutes silence can also kill the atmosphere, I suppose it depends on who its for and the quality of the game following it.
