I can't believe it is 10 years since he left Wolves - good luck to him.

View Full Version : Jamie Smith retires broughtonwolf 18-07-2007, 16:04 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/w/wimbledon/6904855.stm I can't believe it is 10 years since he left Wolves - good luck to him. Phys Ed Wolf 18-07-2007, 16:09 Maybe looking back with rose tinted glasses, and maybe my judgement of him then was deluded by bias, but I thought he never really achieved his potential. Thought he was going to go onto bigger and better things. Only 32 as well, which is no age for a footballer these days. Good luck. cooper_J 18-07-2007, 16:16 I remember a Smith thread a few weeks back. I agree - look at the teams he's played for. No worldbeaters there (and it was Fulham pre becoming decent). To retire at 32 isn't that bad when you think about Mark Clyde though. Bradders 18-07-2007, 17:09 There was certainly a lot of hope for him when he broke through. Although part of that could be that he was one of the first players to come through the youth team for a while and play more than a handful of games. Best of luck in your retirement Jamie. freezin 18-07-2007, 17:48 I remember whenever i watched tv footage with commentry by Christmas (yes thats his real name, born on the 25th of december) Kamara he used to repeat himself ad neauseum! "Cracking little player Jamie Smith, loves to get up and down that wing" NOKASPLACE 18-07-2007, 17:53 32!!! God I feel old!! :( Big Mack 18-07-2007, 18:26 Maybe looking back with rose tinted glasses, and maybe my judgement of him then was deluded by bias, but I thought he never really achieved his potential. Good luck to him. wanderer24 18-07-2007, 19:40 I did tell you all months back he was retiring at the end of the season. He's suffered with knee problems all his career and probably the reason he didn't do as well as his talent should have taken him. Don't worry his future, he's always been clued up in terms of business investments. broughtonwolf 18-07-2007, 20:16 32!!! God I feel old!! :( I don't know why it should be Jamie Smith in particular, more than any other player, but that's exactly the way I feel right now - old! Reach For The Sky 18-07-2007, 20:22 I don't know why it should be Jamie Smith in particular, more than any other player, but that's exactly the way I feel right now - old! Me as well. Maybe it's because Jamie Smith wasn't even born when I started going to Wolves and now he's retiring, albeit through injury. I quite liked him and some aspects of his game were better than Muscat's, although he bever quite lived up to his potential. Deutsch Wolf 18-07-2007, 20:24 We got a fantastic deal for Smith, a better right back and a top class forward at this level in exchange for a wing back type of player who was never particularly good defensively. Unfortunately Mr McGhoo fell out with Freedman and that was that. Jamie Smith made his debut against Man Utd in a friendly a whole 13 years ago. Frightening. Stewarton Wolf 18-07-2007, 22:45 Sad to see him retire, but all in all he was one of many over the past 20 or so years who wasn't good enough. As for potential I think he squeezed the maximum from his ability and honest player if not the best. Wolv3nsam 18-07-2007, 23:08 I remember a Smith thread a few weeks back. Got to feel gutted for Clyde, he was only 22. |
