Can't remember if I have everinstigated a poll before..but after reading the ramblings on a previous thread maybe we should be clear amongst us what we all think about the board and their backing of Hod.
And whether we should be spending money ad lib as some suggest. At the very least we will get a good cross section of this forum..so go for it and let us see how the majority think!!

People are coming to ridiculous conclusions because we haven't bought anyone, and it's descending into the predictable Moxey bashing. We should only buy players if we are SURE that they will improve the side. Unfortunately, the thought process for a lot of people seems to be "We have lots of money, we must spend it".

Yes we do need to spend some money, for the umpteenth time.

Thats the way I feel also DW...for the first time in years we have a manager with a grain of sense in his head coupled with a canny instinct for keeping his powder dry!

yes, spend money IF the right player comes along.
i think we are doing that its just the right players are not coming along or available, no point buying someone who does not improve the team. anderton will, mcnamara does. if you can get them for free brilliant

Great poll Grizz!
Well vote on it then you great lumux!!
I can't understand the paranoia and growing levels of hysteriasurrounding the board and GH, four games into the season!smileys/smiley7.gif
As part of his contract negotiations he wanted the pitch widened and the playing surface improved. This has been done.
He wanted that player analysis, computer thingy (can't remember what its called). He got it, even though the board refused it, allegely, to DJ.smileys/smiley2.gif
We signed his old mate from birmingham. A keeper on loan whenhe wanted one. Jackie Mac was a coup.Lets face it Wolves are notorious for throwing big £ on crap and i think it makes a refreshing change that for once we are going for free transfers and playing our cards close too our chestsmileys/smiley32.gif.
I'm sure if the right player comes along the £ will be there. but again this subject has been done time and time again. And will keep going sadlysmileys/smiley11.gif
Madness to think that GH isn't being backed

Overall I'm reasonably happy with the squad. I would still prefer to see another defender or two signed as I still believe this is our weak spot.
Having fought to stay awake during the QPR game, Very Satisfied

There is room for a couple more signings if and when we can get the
right people to come in. I'm liking the way the squad as a whole
is moving forward under Hoddle, I think the players we've brought in so
far have been good signings and hopefully are a sign of the good things
to come.

He should've kept Bischoff IMO. We wouldn't still need a new centre-back, or have needed to loan Gyepes.

Where is Bischoff these days? Is he actually fit to play for anyone?

Still at City, with Willow Flood loaned out I would think he might get a few run outs for City this season
The side remind me of Mcghee'sera in a way. If anything Mcghee's side were slightly better and would have gone up as Champions but for the Molineux injurycurse. I cant remember why Mcghee got sacked - oh i remember now it was for not getting promotion and then a bad start to the following season..
Load of $$$$$$$z.

Plus he's on a free at the end of the season.

Papa,
Was begining to think it was just me. McGhee rubbed people up the wrong way and that didn't help his cause but I saw the other side. Frequently I saw him out watching local games (mainly kids games0 on a Sunday morning and he gave his all for our club.
He was extremely unlucky injury wise and that ultimately cost him his job.

If i remember correctly Mcghee got the heave-ho after a game away at Ipswich. A fixture which had been built up to be Mcghee's final game even before it kicked off. If we'd have won it we would have been 'lucky' and then it would have been the next crucial game etc. Maybe a law should be brought in that safeguards a manager's job until the end of season - how many upturns would happen? How many players would dig in knowing they were playing for their future?
We're all too fickle. One day Hoddle will get sacked.

No-one ishould ever be satisfied with the team they have. They should always be looking for improvement - (Look at Murinho).
Hoddle will be looking to improve the squad - but only if the right player comes along.
Blaming the board for not spending cash is ridiculous. No championship team has spent more cash than us over the last 10 years and look where it has got us.

Thank god the proposed law wasn't in place for last season. We'd still be straggled with Jones now if that was the case.
And yes, of course Hoddle will go at some point, either being sacked or walking of his own volition. In the meantime though, let the good times roll while he's doing an effective job for the club.

Vic - agree entirely with your points there. We should spend when we need to and when it is justified, on a quality improvement to the squad, not just because there is cash burning a proverbial hole.Edited by: BardWolf

Very good points BW and I likewise agree with Vic.
The fact GHidentified well before the start of this season the squad needed improving upon was nothing most of us didn't already know and in signing the likes of McNamara and Rickett was a good start. However andwithout doubt there are still at least 2 positions that need bolstering and should they not be so before this current transfer window closes I feel and fear Wolves chaces of auto promotion will be dented.
Waiting until the next window opens may be too late if we are once again playing catch up.

Which 2?

IMAB, are you just being silly, plain stupid or awkward?smileys/smiley2.gif
No insults intended mate but cover for Naylor has been mentioned god knows how many times and if he is out, as is likely today I believe, then only McNamara is quality enough to cover the LB slot comfortably becuse Kennedy certainly does not and if JM moves over then the RB slot is weakened.
There is no cover for Ince and many folk still feel another CH is needed albeit my view here is that with Lescott, Craddock, Gyepes, Clyde and Edwards we are not so desperate for another.
So another LB and midfield player, erm that's two.
No asking a simple question to nail down which 2 you think we need as we have people asking for
1: Striker
2: LB
3: Ince replacement
4: CH
Thanks for the answer though.

Who do you feel we need cover for and who would you bring in cover for first if limited to just one signing?
Me?
A bog standard RB would be the only player on my shopping list now after the signings already made. I gave my reasons on the Cover for Naylor thread.
Essex Wolf
27-08-2005, 12:47
I gather then you would use McNamara as cover for both sidesbut first choice for RB and if he needs to move over to LB thenthe new RB would fill in for JM.
EW yes.
Rest of the squad looks good enough to win the league if people continue (or start) to perform.
Come December I'd look to get deals in place to replace anyone who wasn't performing as we can't be dragged back by deadwood. However I think we have to give Olo and Soel til the window as we spent so much on them. Would also like to see Gypes played to see if we should buy him.

Good idea then IMAB but either way it seems a FB for one side or the other is a must.
As for Gyepes, fully agree mate and Watford away in the cup is the perfect sort of game to me to see what he can offer. The game will be competative but if we lose no great shakes.Edited by: Essex Wolf

Absolutely. I am just dubious ther would be a LB out ther to sit in the reserves who was good enough to play if required. Far more likely IMO to find a rb that fits that bill as left footed players are generally hard to find (ask Sven!!).
