No, he's got the right idea, if you don't spunk loads of money on players you don't need, the fans will hate you.
Mellor is $$$$$e, I'd rather have Clarke.

if all his team are good at shooting, surely they will therefore score moer goals and win more games?

They'll do well to ever get above being Yorkshires 3rd biggest club.

Erm no not at all DW. I've never once advocated the club signs players willy nilly just that we need to sign quality and have a squad that has strength and quality in depth. We have no LB cover or cover for Ince so I'd say that at this very moment the squad is stilla little lacking or do you disagree?
If you intend to debate an issue DW please do so but don't try to make out I'm saying or advocating things I clearly am not.
If Sheff Utd/Warnock want to sign players by the boat load that is their choice and sod all to do with Wolves and doesn't interest me a jot but what does interest me is the Wolves squad and that it lacks the cover that a promotion push will most likely need.

Why is it that people like DW etc accuse the fans with the opinion that, 'the club needs to spend money on quality players' that they are only happy when we are spending money willy nilly.
I just want some of the millions we have to spend, to be spent on quality players that are available, rather than free transfer signings that will do us a job for a year.
We shouldn't be a stopgap club, we need to build for the future, and while we have the money, why aren't we???????
The squad isn't good enough.Edited by: Molineuxmessiah

Thank your lucky stars! I knew about this 6-8wks ago and at the time Wolves were sniffing round Mellor on a loan deal.

messiah, if I may call you that, your point is very valid. I would love us to spend some of our war chest on some really high quality stuff that will push us to the top of the division. However, if we aren't able to attract the talent at the moment for whatever reason, I would hope we would hold onto the cash rather than waste it on dross in some false attempt at fan appeasement.

To counter that I'd say that Hoddle is almost certainly fully aware of
where we're lacking and trying to resolve it. However, all
players that are easily available aren't good enough, and those that
are good enough take time and money to get, if you can get them at all!

I don't want the money spent on dross, i just believe there are players out there that have either been snapped up or are still available that we shold be signing. We're not and thats the most dissapointing thing.

David Bentley, Callum Davenport, John Welsh (until recently), Michael Brown, Tom Huddlestone, Pavel Abbott etc etc etc, either on loan or a purchase
I wish Warnock was the manager of the Wolves and brought the Sheff U board with him!!
Then we'd see some real success down the Mol!!!!!

Bentley - good player and seems keen on us, but we have signed Anderton who, I think plays in his area. Hoddle said not interested so no attempt has been made.
Davenport - I would be happy to see him in the Wolves squad. Same as for Michael Brown. There are still some days left to try these options if that is what the club are doing. Until the window closes I won't give up hope of their arrival. However, if they don't I doubt that we will release a statement saying X player, we tried, we failed, justto show ambition, so it would be guesswork as to whether bids have gone in for them unless they are in the strip at a photoshoot at the mol.
John Welsh - he's ok but I don't think he's that good. Goldeneyed likes him I understand
Huddlestone is not available. Abbott don't impress me that much to be fair

Molineuxmessiah, it's quite simple mate. There are those of us who expect better from the club and acknowledge that quality will not come cheap but if an honest attempt at promotion is to even be considered andthen madethen quality isa must.
Has beens, 1yr deals and stop gaps are all well and good and can do a decent job but for us to go from a decent sqaud/team to a good/quality one further players are required and GH has himself indicated this small but rather important and very significant fact.
Now if Wolves were in say the position of teams such as Crewe, Brighton, Plymouth, Luton, Stoke and the like I could fully understand there being little money about and the club subsequently signing make do's and bosmans etc but Wolves are not in this position and haven't been as far as I'm concerned fo a while now.
Not suggesting they splash money as per the DJ days but GH is a far better coach, manager, motivator and tactician than Jones will ever be if he lives to a 100 and I'd trust him 100% if financially backed to turn Wolves into a very good side.
Any doubt I have over the Molineux board is not a short sighted spur of the moment one but as a result of many failues these past few years of which somecould and in most cases should have been avoided.Edited by: Essex Wolf

Arsenal reputedly want want £3 million for Bentley having turned down a £2 million offer from Norwich. Can't see us spending that on an unproven player.

Yes, but what quality players are available? I'm sure Glenn would
like to buy Andy Johnson and Dean Ashton- but we arn't gonna get them
for anything shy of £6m. And any quality players in the prem are gonna
either be too expensive again or their respective clubs don't want to
let them go. We just have to bide our time and strike when we get the
chance. E.g Michael Brown most probably will not want to be sold by
Spurs until they have a replacment- Jenas being the one they are after-
only then could we buy him.

Personally I would have liked us to go in for Cresswell, or even Hulse, now Leeds have 6 strikers. But expect to see Jeffers down here next week if he still isn't getting a look in at Charlton. He has had the offer (this is the playerHoddle said he would wait for), heis just waiting to see if his chances at Charlton are totally numbered now Bent has arrived. If nothing happens it will because of Jeffers not the fact that Wolves arn'tlooking to strengthen in that department.

UF, if Jeffers is one of the players GH is prepared to wait for I gather then that he is going to cost us big bucks. For a player who misses more games than he plays will this be a good signing?

Fark me Essex!!!
On the transfers thread you bang on about the Board not backing the manager with big money signings, then on this thread you argue whether it's a good thing to spend big on a Prem striker!!
Are you normally this contrary!??

Basher, mate it was a question that's all, no more and no less. Don't read into a post something that isn't here mate.
If Jeffers joins great because GH is the very manager to get the best out of players who have undoubted ability but you cannot argue that the bloke has missed a lot of football and that I find a litle concerning that's all.
Personally I wouldn't sign Jeffers.
I can see his career following similar lines to Cadamartari and Branch.Jeffers attitude and believe at present far outstrips his ability!!Edited by: basher

Agreed 100% mate hence my concern at such a signing should it take place.
If it does then I trust GH and he has my full backing but I hope it is not the player he has been waiting for.

Is it possible to give your full backing to something you have concerns about? Not where I come from anyway.
In every thread you are arguing with yourself, are you just on a wind up?

Mate, I'd say GH has a slightly better idea than any of us who post on here as to whether a player will be any good or not so should GH sign Jeffers I will back him as to do otherwise would not, IMV, be what a supporter is l about. Just because I don't always agree with the hings the club do I don't turn my back on hem.
As such and in response to your commnt all I can say is this.I don't really look at signing a player like Jeffers as anythingto get too excited about albeit I do accept on his day he is a skilled player with an eye for goal and it is those attributes I trust GH to bring out.
