View Full Version : Super Players - Value for Money?

In these days of absolutely stupid money being paid out for players like Wright-Phillips and Essien - I mean £50 million quid for just 2 players! Bearing in mind that it's Chelski and like many other teams we can't compete in their world never mind league!
The Play Off final at Cardiff was fantastic when we beat Sheffield Utd 3-0 - An occassion to be remembered - But when will any other teams outside of the BIG 4 - Chelski, Man ure, Arsenal and Liverpool be able to compete for any cups/ trophies? Some say the Scottish Prem's a joke - I'm starting to think that the EnglishPrem is fast going in the same direction!
Has this crazy spiralling transfer fee merry-go-round priced most teams out of Premiership survival and Does this actually mean that unless you have a team of "Super Players" that can pass the ball more accurately and shoot at the goal instead of the corner flag that the vast majority of trophys and cups are headed towards Stamford Bridge, Anfield, Old Trafford or Highbury?
Are the "lesser" players who help their teams get promoted less capable of passing the ball and shooting? Or are they just plain scared stiff of the players that they are going up against - because of their financial value and incomes? And that turns players from gritty and determined into - using Stevie Bulls analergie - "Rabbits caught in headlights"
How can this gap be bridged? and what ever happened to sport and the concept of a team game?
A handicap system, Leagues within the Premier league - A cup competition without the BIG clubs? Why should all the other clubs be starved of a chance of a final at Cardiff/ New Wembley- not to mention the extra income! -What's your opinion?Edited by: Notty Wolf

Until such time as the powers that be introduce some sort of capping level in all aspects of the game, IE transfers, wages, ticket costs and signing on fees etc etc then the current system will run on and on sad to say.
I look forward to the day, if it ever comes round aain, when a season starts and the title isn't a 2-3 horse race before he first ball has ever been kicked.

When all weekend matches start at 3.00pm on a Saturday afternoon and the shirt numbers only go up to 11

Well duh!! Of course it means that. If your players are crap then your team is crap. (Or am i missing something)

Nope, they are just not as good, some make it some don't it is not just the gap between the Prem and the CC. Happens at lower levels, rumour has it talent and skill is more important in football than ego.

The lower cups simply don't work, TV ratings will be low so no advertising revenue and fans are not bothered as they already have too many games and people love the FA cup. I would rather go out of the cup than win an "Easy cup" that is made to make little people feel big.
The SHerpa Van or whatever it is called these days does not get big crowds at any stage even the final (excluding us)

Also while still ranting. Other teams are getting a look in, although it is a slow process teams like Newcastle, Bolton and Middlesboro and Spursare getting better players and closer to winning things.
Bolton have spent next to nothing and have got to the stage of European football, with this comes exposure, then comes the players and finally proper success. All starts with good management.
Now you can all shoot me down in flames.

Gola football boots, a bit of deep heat, a mars bar at half time, balls in the nuts, Your Dad giving you your detailed performance breakdown and 50p every goal you scored.
Jumpers for goalposts mmm, isn't it.

and this team that lives on Sky and therefore is getting oodles of dosh for each tv performance also gets shown by the glory hunters on BBC one and Channel 5 in its qualification matches for the champions league rather thasn showing a genuinely close effort by Everton. Give me fuggin strength

Ah yes! but think where they would have been if they had bought two or three quality players... and if their board had backed them? smileys/smiley2.gif

Whereas we will have had the grand total of one before we play Leicester on the 17th Sept. Whooppee aren't we lucky.
Quick trivia question, when was the last time Man Utd played Arsenal in the league at 3pm on a Saturday?

Probably around 1994 i would guess.
The fans who go to games suffer greatly due to Sky imo.

Didn't you know Grizz, even if the board had given them £25m they still would have finished lower than they did the previous year.
