The new Australian soccer league has kicked of the for the first time tonight..... Players like Dwight Yorke, Brian Deane and Kevin Muscat coming back to Oz to play...

Its more like a pensioners league hahaha, but i do hope it goes well and we can attract more interest for players over here and the standard of footy is quite poor in the leagues here

First game : Newcastle Jets 0 - Adelaide United 1 (Veart 19')

Peter Glory are currently playing Central Coast Mariners...

You forgot to mention Darren Bazeley and Neil Emblem at the New Zealand Knights.

I'd love it if NZ won the A League.

Has Muscat been sent off yet or ended anybody's career?

I take it Kevin Keegan is their manager then...

No John Adshead is.

Look at this for a quality squad.

Chester would fancy their chances. At least they aren't playing Emblem up front.

Carl Veart still playing? Dave Bassett signed him for Sheffield United if I remember rightly.

Queensland Roar will be my team, as the missus comes from Logan, not that she's bothered about football though.

I just watched the Glory vs Mariners game.... poor game of football, Deane doesnt look like any sort of player he has been pumped up to be over here hahaha

But what do you expect if you have a league over here that could equal to the 2nd division in England

Simon Yeo (Lincoln goal machine) moved to the NZ knights in the summer didn't he?

He scored about 30 goals last season for Lincoln as well.

<DIV =name>2. Kevin Muscat</DIV>
<DIV =bio>

Current Qantas Socceroo and former player with Millwall, Wolverhampton and Rangers in the UK. They don’t come much bigger than Kevin Muscat, and the announcement of his signing attracted more media coverage in Melbourne than the announcement of the new league itself. Kevin has captained virtually every team he has played for, including Australia at every age level. Kevin will surely become the face of football in Victoria.

Its like the MLS in the 70's.

Well apart from the fact that Pele and Best were'nt up to the standard of Brain Deane and Dwight Yorke

I'm afrid to saythe NZ knights don't seem to have a chance at the moment, the last report in the papers saidthat quite a few players in the team were injured, i'm pretty sure they signed one while he still had abroken leg! Also in the friendlies they scored something like 4 goals yet conceeded 15 - 16, losing one game at home 5 nil. With the attendances already not expected to reach the heady heights of 5000, yet i will still be going to the games, as i am desperate for a dose of real football.
