Now it's over what's the verdict?

I thought it was pretty decent although it can't stand comparisons with The Office.

Very hit and miss, last nights was pretty good, but some of them have been fairly dire.

Every episode was absolute class. Very, very funny.smileys/smiley32.gif

It's an extremely dark and cringe-worthy programme. The problem is, everyone wants him to do Brent.

Some of the line in Extras are very clever, I look forward to it growing on me more and more.

I thought it was brilliant.

I thought it was excellent. If it had come out before the office it would have been raved about. Shame it was such a short series.

I agree that you shouldn't compare it with the Office.

I liked it too, the mixture of subtle humour and blatent cringeworthy stuff works well in my book, but I could understand it wouldn't be to everyone's taste. Patrick Stewart's description of his script had me laughing, the way they deliver these lines in such an earnest way, they must find it hard not to laugh themselves.

it was the Les Dennis one for me. Fantastic.

Kate Winslett one for me was the best.

They don't use the actor as much as they could, although it's probably all done on a budget.

I thought it was brilliant and very funny. I like the way the charcter development isn't so 'in your face', but you begin to identify with the characters whilst laughing at the great scripts.

Maybe no-one else will understand that, but I know what I mean. smileys/smiley2.gif

Its not really about the actor though, its a role reversal. Instead of the actor being the main focus its the extra!

I really enjoyed last nights (I watched it this morning before work) and the Ross Kemp and Kate Winslet ones stand out. Wasn't keen on the Ben Stiller one.

The Les Dennis one was good, mainly because the camp Glaswegian was played by Gerard Kelly who I know from years ago in Brookside playing tough Glaswegian gang boss Callum Finnegan, so to see him as a camp lovey was a bit weird!

I found the programme pretty funny to be honest an thats considering i never really liked Office too much but found this programme more mickey take at both celebrities and people who have different attiudes to different sort of people and the ways that celbs took the mick out of themselves was fun too especally Kemps, Ross, Winslet and the Les Dennis episodes

I found most of it more of a cringeworthy funny than the office. The office had a few cringeworthy moments but also a nice helping of genuinly funny moments that just made me absolutely $$$$$$ myself! When Brent stands up in the Ostrich jockey costume after just being fired is a prime example. smileys/smiley36.gif

Might have been down to the great characters in the office, I didthink that showbiz dad last week was funny though!! Gervais is awesome really isnt he?!smileys/smiley32.gif

Last night's was great- Patrick Stewart: "and I saw everything". I liked the one where he started talking about child abuse with the catholics too. And the club foot man.

I missed the Les Dennis one but the DVD will be out soon I suppose. There's only going to be one more series.

Overall I thought it was good. As LIQ says, if this had come out before the Office the critics would have been creaming over it. Gervais' stuff will always be compared to the Office.

I agree, though I haven't seen last night's yet. Very, very funny stuff. It's easier to relate to the Office though, because most people have worked in that kind of environment at some point.

What did everyone think of the Catherine Tait thing on afterwards?

Saw it last week, wasn't overly impressed. Kind ofa female Harry Enfield, when he was $$$$$.

Some of the Catherine Tate show stuff is OK but some of it is terrible - that "how very dare you" bloke smileys/smiley9.gif.

'Characters' are a problem I think. It doesn't take long to get sick of them. And as Gervais said in last night's extras: "no catchphrases".

Or maybe women just aren't funny.

Dr Magnox

You're right I think. Characters and catchphrases can be initially very funny but pretty tiresome very quickly.

Women are funny (tou laugh at not with eh) smileys/smiley2.gif

I do like the old granny and her '$$$$$$$ing liberty' catchphrase, but with all the other characters, after a few weeks you knows whats coming before it happens. The couple that get over excited about dull everyday lifeare very annoying! Edited by: LIQ IV

I didn't get to watch this series but I did really enjoy the Office.

Have to say though that I can't stand Ricky Gervais as Ricky Gervais!!! Every interview I've seen him in he just reminds me so much of David Brent!! It's as though he actually is Brent in real life!!!

It just grates on me so much. Just a personal observation.

cooper_J

I think that Catherine Tait thing is awful.

AmI bothered? $$$$$$ off!

It becomes even more annoying when the office is full of idiots who love this drivel and can't resist saying it at every opportunity.

it was the Les Dennis one for me. Fantastic.

Thats was class, like bits but some is a bit too cringe worthy. But it does give PC people a bit of a kick in the rse.

The first series of Extras has been excellent, absolutely hilarious at regular intervals. The Les Dennis and the Samuel L. Jackson ones were particularly good IMO!

As for the Catherine Tate show,I only really like theold Nan, she's hilarious, other bits are quite good sometimes too, but there are also alot of parts that aren't as good, and in the case of 'Am I bothered?' very annoying!
