They stay in the Championship.....correct result i feel...West Ham played out their skin for the last 10 games or so of last season, not their fault there was no points deduction awarded to them. In any event West Ham would be much more of a threat in our division than Sheffield Utd may prove to be..Sharp or no Sharp.

Who'd have thought it. Not the correct result though.

definitely the correct result, they had plenty of time to save their own skin and just werent good enough.

Boro got deducted points for less.
They should relegate them and west ham, then have 4 go up next season :)

How anyone can say this is the correct result is beyond me. West Ham stayed up because of Tevez and not even the most ardent West Ham fan could look me in the eye and deny that. Not only was he signed illegally originally he was subsequently released then re-signed outside the transfer window!

...except a large part of them playing well was the fact that they were using an ineligible player.

They should have been deducted points rather being fined. Whether the points deducted would have meant they got relegated, who knows?

depends on the number of points

Not the right result but always going to be once the dust settled - apart from the fact that I thought the appeal would succeed and then the Premier League would deduct 2 points.
The way McCabe has played the virgin mary in this and then been exposed as being a naughty boy with a deal to watford means that my viewof the blades has plummetted.
I hope we pummell them twice next year.

Yes but we all knew so the authorities must have known aswell. They are the ones in the wrong more than West Ham. It should never have got to this stage. Once it had the decision could not have been reversed without even worse happening as a knock on effect.

what has happened to Man Utd? they had an agreement with Everton that they could not play Tim Howard against them, which is againt the rules. but I don't think there has been any punishment.

Justice should be blind to knock on effects. The authorities have not been consistent in line with past decisions which of course is not West Hams fault. However, 2 wrongs don't make a right and IMO West Ham should have swapped with Sheffield Utd.

Not the correct result for me. Some of the original reasons given as to why West Ham weren't deducted points were a joke.

If they'd not been a) in the premiership and b) a London club they'd have had points deducted.

The initial tribunal said that it was the biggest breach of Premier League rules in it's history. The punishment did not fit this.

03-07-2007, 15:25
isn't it the biggest fine in premier league history?
paddingtonwolf
03-07-2007, 15:25
maybe
however the maximum deduction for an ineligible player in the league was Leyton Orient (hmm - ain't they in London?) with a 6 point whack. Every other deduction has been in the 1 to 2 area which would have made $$$$ all difference.
And don't quote Boro as an example. They broke an entirely different rule when they failed to fulfill a fixture.
westside wolf
03-07-2007, 15:41
forgetting the rights and the wrongs of the decision Sheffield United completely bottled it at the end of the season, as the football cliche goes you should always play to the whistle, sheffield united should have played to the decision rather than crying about it now, the rest of the consortium of teams that were so unhappy soon went quiet when they stayed up, i'm sure sheffield united would have done if wigan had gone down.

Wrong decision but the best one for us. West Ham would surely steam roll this league with their squad and financial power.

Because most of the club were laid up in bed. Unlike Birmingham and their "let's change our pitch during the worst weather in years" who didn't get points deducted...

West Ham should have had points deducted at the time. It's no real shock that the appeal failed, though. There's no time for another investigation before the 07/08 season starts.
Having said that, Sheffield Utd had their destiny in their own hands & blew it. Unlucky.....
Whitewash. They'll go for Sharp now.

The people who come out of this worst are the premiership 'board'. they made a complete mess of the situation and should have investigated and dealt with it at Christmas when the transfers went through.
It was always a dodgy deal - just look at the guy involved (Joorabchian) and see how highly he's rated by one and all...
The rulers of the Premiership are self serving fat cats who need to wake up to the fact that money can't alwasy win out.
Having ranted I do feel that WHU deserved to stay up!
it would have been a surprise if the verdict had been anything else. how can a small club be expected to get a fair judgement when involved against the fat cats of the footballing world. money and influence dictate. all the big clubs ignore the laws of football if it suites them. its the type of society we live in, where football is reflecting politics.

If we ever get into the Premiership we'll **** on the "little clubs" just like the rest of the Greed League.

I like Sheffield United - a battling team from the working class area of the city, not like the Wednesday from the posh part with the odd hooligan or two who likes to look for away fans in tram queues near to their ground; two of 'em chanted 'Albion' at me and my mate at the station when we failed to win at their place the year WBA overtook us in the top two. My mate overreacted but there you go - I don't think the fans of Shefffield United would have reacted that way from my experiences of them.
West Ham are too well-liked by the authorities and the media and have been for at least 4 decades. A nice stereotyped club and bunch of 'loveable' (huh!) hooligans to write easy articles about by laazy journos!

"We would go so far as to say that this tribunal would in all probability have reached a different conclusion and deducted points from West Ham. We would, for example, have given much more weight to the deliberate deceit by West Ham officials which concealed the existence of third-party arrangements."
This was the view of the tribunal. How any fair-minded football fan of any persuasion can think that leaving West Ham in the Premier League is a just outcome is beyond me.
It's an old cliche in football that promotion and relegation issues are not decided on the final day, but over the course of the season. Whether Sheffield United blew it against Wigan, also fighting for their lives, and whether West Ham had it easy against a powder-puff Man Utd is immaterial. They cheated all season long, and they've got away with it.
I should imagine even the Italian authorities are holding their noses.

A lot of people slate Italy but can you ever imagine Man Utd getting relegated if they were found guilty of doing something underhand? It'd never happen.

I don't profess to understand all of the technicalities of the situation, but it appears that WHU were guilty of a breach of the rules. The question then is whether or not the punishment was appropriate. I don't suppose that there is a fixed scale of punishments in the rule book so they make it up as they go along.
I really think that we should stand above the petty allegiances to either of the clubs involved as it is the principle that matters.

Definitely think West Ham should have been docked points but at the end of the day Blades messed up a 10 point lead, its their own soddin' fault and if they'd played better they'd have stayed up, and we'd have had to endure a thousand articles of Dave Whelan bumming on about the same thing. End of.

The problems with the transfer proves Sheff Utd were robbed.
West Ham broke the rules and should have been docked points.
They have lied since day 1.
I do not like Sheff Utd and I am glad they were relegated, however if Wolves had been relegated under these circumstances we would be slightly narked.
Make no mistake hey were not docked points because they are a London club FACT

West Ham *should* have been docked points - but their geography had nothing to with the decision.

Are you going to play properly, or are you incapable of holding a debate?
The fact that several clubs from the South of England have been punished with points deductions means that your arguement that geography has saved West Ham is rubbish.
