View Full Version : If Darren Bent can play for England... wearewolves 14-06-2007, 21:32 £17million!!!!!! Did I miss a meeting? The Bear 14-06-2007, 21:34 No, you missed the entire story. wearewolves 14-06-2007, 21:40 No, you missed the entire story. Clearly, so what is it? kidder_wolf_II 14-06-2007, 21:52 Darren Bent is quality, Not worth 17 million though or 75k a week that west ham are offering him. but he has rejected the move and looks to be heading to spurs for less money wearewolves 14-06-2007, 21:56 I knew he'd turned it down - it was the fact that somebody thought him worth £17million that staggered me. I assumed he must be an awful lot better than I thought at that price. Scott.Cooper 14-06-2007, 22:01 We were talking at work today about Alan Smith and we got talking about Darren Bent too. A guy was asking how much we would pay for Alan Smith and the amount quoted from the people around me was £5-6M. However when you put that into perspective and look at what we are talking for Sharp £2-3M and what Bent could go for £17M it shows something is seriously wrong somewhere. Is bent over three times the player Smith is? Is Sharp half the player Smith is? Or is £5M for Smith cheap? (And we were talking geniune figures, not inflated figures because of the market or a bidding war). wanderer24 14-06-2007, 22:08 Smith scores about one goal a season, Bent will score 15-20 and nobody knows what Sharp would do in the Premier. How much did Man Utd pay for him? 1.5m? That's about his value now in my opinion. Bent, although not international class, will score goals in the Premiership so his value is certainly up there with say Johnson's price(9m?) kidder_wolf_II 14-06-2007, 22:13 . Bent, although not international class, will score goals in the Premiership so his value is certainly up there with say Johnson's price(9m?) I have to agree but im hoping he signs for 1 of the big 5 this season as i do believe that he will become international class if he is playing for 1 of the bigger sides. England need a goal scorer who is fast and im not sure Owen can fill that gap like he used 2 Mr Wolf 14-06-2007, 23:09 Alan Smith is usless, about 12 goals in a 100 games i think. Bent does score plenty of goals and is still very young. He's one of those players ( I Wright, A Cole) that will score in the prem every week but cannot make the step up to international class. I think £17m for a 15 plus goals a season striker is about right. Black Suit 15-06-2007, 01:31 Alan Smith is usless, about 12 goals in a 100 games i think. John 15-06-2007, 02:13 I think £17m for a 15 plus goals a season striker is about right.:eek::eek::eek: Mr Wolf 15-06-2007, 02:17 He has played more games in midfield than up front during this period, so are you being fair? Yes, he's cack. John, when you consider man u have just paid £30m for two kids who aren't much younger than Bent the price doesn't seem as bad. John 15-06-2007, 02:27 Yes, he's cack. John, when you consider man u have just paid £30m for two kids who aren't much younger than Bent the price doesn't seem as bad. I'm not attempting to dismiss your comments, the "eek", was at the price that footballers have risen to now. I remember thinking £15M for Shearer was was steep, and he was well established at the time. Akaman 15-06-2007, 03:43 Darren Bent is quality, Not worth 17 million though or 75k a week that west ham are offering him. but he has rejected the move and looks to be heading to spurs for less money Fair play to him if he's movin to spurs for less wages. Or is it just a lower fee? West Ham are paying Lucas Neill 70K per week.... LUCAS NEILL!!! That's wrong in itself. Darren Bent isn't worth 17m, he's probably worth about half that. His price is inflated because of his age in the same way Ashley Young's price was for his transfer to Villa. But, in reference to Mr Young, if he's worth 9.65m in todays market, then Bent is worth 17m. He's a better player than Young and if you were in Charlton's shoes, having seen Young move for so much money, would you really accept 8-9m for Bent? JJ82 15-06-2007, 08:43 17 mil seems a hell of alot for someone who's not even proved at international level, Although i gotta say he's proved me wrong in his goal scoring record in the prem, does very well and 15 goals a season is good, but 17 million good ? wanderer24 15-06-2007, 12:03 17 mil seems a hell of alot for someone who's not even proved at international level, Although i gotta say he's proved me wrong in his goal scoring record in the prem, does very well and 15 goals a season is good, but 17 million good ? I don't think West Ham or any other team for that matter will give a flying foook whether he can make the step up to international class; they just want 15-20 goals. Phys Ed Wolf 15-06-2007, 13:13 How much money will the team finishing fourth from bottom get this coming season? I would imagine it would be at least around £17 mill. If you can get a player that will get 15-20 goals and get you even further up the league (maybe even to Europe), then over 3 or 4 years, I would imagine that the club splashing out would think it's worth it. Bent scored goals in a poor team in turmoil last season. In a decent team, given a decent run, I think he'll do very well. paddingtonwolf 15-06-2007, 13:18 £30 million for finishing bottom so I would guess maybe £32 million for fourth bottom? Phys Ed Wolf 15-06-2007, 13:40 £30 million for finishing bottom so I would guess maybe £32 million for fourth bottom? There you go then. One successful season, as long as everyone else pulls their weight, he's paid back the outlay in one season! Jamboon 15-06-2007, 14:41 if you're basing it on that. One dreadful season and he's still paid back the outlay! |
