Molineux chief scout Dave Bowman believes Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is in pole position to cherry pick the hottest emerging talent from the country’s biggest clubs.
And Bowman, McCarthy’s long-time trusted lieutenant in the transfer market, has already spoken to Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger to pave the way for Wolves raids on their youth and reserve teams.
“We will be pursuing Premiership loan players as well as looking for permanent signings,” said Bowman.
“Last season we missed out on those chances because of the timing of everything that happened.
“Mick only came in a couple of weeks before the start of the season and I didn’t start until September after leaving Sunderland.
“Speaking to managers at the top clubs, I think they are going to go through pre-season before deciding who they might loan out.
“A few of them were left short at the end of last season due to injuries.
“Manchester United, for example, had a few defensive problems, but had loaned Jonny Evans and Danny Simpson out to Sunderland.
“So I think teams will give it a while to see what they’ve got and those sort of deals may have to wait.
“But the relationship we’ve got with these clubs will give us a good chance of getting players when they become available.
“And the position we’re in now, laying the groundwork for deals in May and early June rather than September, will certainly help.
“It’s all about picking up the phone, talking to people and networking.”
Bowman’s contacts almost paid off in January when he was close to landing United’s Giuseppi Rossi on loan before the striker opted to join Parma instead.
