Saddlers manager Richard Money has revealed Dann will be offered a new deal when he returns for pre-season training in July after a highly impressive breakthrough year.
The 19-year-old is already under contract for next season having signed an extension before Christmas, but Money is now keen to tie him down to a longer-term deal in order to protect the club’s investment in the teenage centre-back.
“Scott Dann is already under contract and we will be negotiating another extension with him when he comes back,” said Money.
“But he is under contract for the next 12 months.”
Dann burst onto the first team scene last season with impressive displays at the heart of defence plus regular goals in Walsall’s League Two title success.
His performances attracted a steady flow of scouts to Walsall matches, but Money said the club has not received any inquiries about the big Scouser.
A new contract would, however, strengthen Walsall’s hand in transfer negotiations if a bid arrives.
Meanwhile, the manager today continued his search for a host of new faces but insisted he will not be rushed into making signings. “It’s difficult to say but I think we’re maybe looking for another five or six,” he said. “We’re not close to signing anyone else but I think we’re ahead of the game.”
One player to be linked with a move to The Banks’s Stadium is former Wolves trainee JJ Melligan, who is out of contract at Cheltenham. The Irishman has helped the Robins win promotion from League Two and establish themselves at League One level.
