Just bought what appears to be an excellent biography about Peter Broadbent. More interesting to "us" of a certain age, but a good read for others to see how good we really were and how good was Peter.

Sadly in the eyes of Walter Winterbottom (or the selection committee that choose the England team for him!!) , he was not deemed as good as Johnny Haynes otherwise he would have got a deserved 50 or so England caps
Peter Broadbent was my hero, the best inside forward I ever saw at Molineux and there were quite a few, Denis Wilshaw, Sammy Smyth etc. What a great entertainer.

He was the best I ever saw, playing at Molineux, I do however think that John White, who came on the scene slightly later with Spurs was as good.
I never rated Johhny Haynes that much, perhaps because he played for Fulham and they always seemed to struggle. I always used to think they only stayed in the Division because of Tony Macedo who was a good goalkeeper. Didn't Bobby Robson play inside forward as well during Peter's time.

Good shout Remus.Nice to be reminded when we were a BIG CLUB.Broadbent was also one of my heroes, also a good call for John White, often forgotten .
So were Wilf Mannion and Len Shackleton. Loved Shackleton's book where he headed one chapter "The average football director's knowledge of the game" and then left the page blank!!

Agree with everything said. He was and is my all time Wolves hero.
Anyone know how he is? Last I heard he was in a nursing home and not very well but not living in Wolvo am out of touch.

Was Robson not a full back? I seem to recall him playing for England in that position.

Robson was an inside forward.
I was asked once, who was the player who evoked my earliest memories of Wolves. I answered it was the great man Peter Broadbent. He'd walk into any team you wish to imagine today and he'd be the star player.

May have played Half Back, don't think he had the pace to play full back in those days.
I seem to recall that Robson was a wing half but could be wrong. (Fading memory and all that!).

I seem to recall that Robson started as an inside forward and it was for this position that he was chosen for the 1958 World Cup squad, as was our Peter. I believe he was chosen for the 1962 squad as a wing half.

Peter Broadbent my hero too, it seemed whenever he played for England somebody got injured (no substitutes in those days) Broadbent had to drop back to cover.
A good article about him in last weeks Black country bugle.
