Which of these players would you buy if you had to only buy one of the two.Eastwood for 1.5 million or sharp for 2.5 million?

Hmmm... Sharp because we already know he could play alongside Keogh.

or we could blow 4+ million on Robert Earnshaw as some would like ;)

I'll go for Sharp at 2.5.
If we had money to spare I'd buy Earnshaw AND Sharp.
One proven. One with something to prove.

I'd go for Sharp ideally, but if Scunthorpe tried to inflate the price, take Eastwood without a moment's thought

Where's Keogh going to play, then?

With Liverpool planning on spending big this Summer, maybe Mr Morgan is aware of some young players that may feel as though they are better providing their services elsewhere. They must have a surplus of good young defenders or strikers wanting for a chance to prove themselves. Paletta in defence maybe?

I said, "If we had money to spare". By which I'm surmising that IF we spent an inordinate amount of capital in order to gain promotion we MIGHT be looking to create a strong squad and not just a strong team. That is known in the trade as competition for places.

Putting it simply, who says Keogh HAS to play? He's has a great time since he came and long may it continue but I'd still prefer him to be looking over his shoulder even when he's at the top of his game.

That's common sense and not rocket science.

This is the stuff that makes me want to puke. So we have a new guy coming into the club and apparently he's going to invest 30M. Where has he said go out and spend money that we haven't got? The damn deal isn't done yet and now we have to put up with this sort of crap.

Looking at this forum, we're in danger of becoming a mini friggin' Chelsea. The reality is that we are still a team in the building and if some of our supporters don't curb their expectation level, we'll be back to repeating past mistakes.

Hold onto your horses, Florida. I was taking this as a hypothetical issue and not as an excuse to say we should be spending millions for whoever.
As a point of order, I'd be just as happy without the supposed 30 mil from the take over.

All hypothetical really because we don't really know the asking prices, however without wishing to be drawn into the Wimabigclubagenmoneysnoobject debate, if the differential was £1 million, I'd take Sharpe.

Morgan has already told Mick to get started on this ... and I hardly think speculation over Sharp and Eastwood is in danger of repeating past mistakes. They are known targets of Mick McCarthy and, having seen Keogh playing for Ireland, it is clear he still has a lot to learn. That is not a criticism of him, because he has done exceptionally well but the truth is he should be putting more into the net than he does.

We only talk about the striker..s.
What about the central defender we all said in the past we need to have?
Some people seems to want us to buy two strikers.
I want a real decent central defender well before that.

Eastwood for me. Has scored goals in a very poor Sarfend side this season and has a great free-kick on him as proven against Man Utd in the Carling Cup.

Sharp is a big gamble at 2.5m. According to the reliable resource (!) The People, Naarwich have made a bid.

Well said Emperor! Defence is more of a worry than attack. We'll score goals but yes a new striker to play alongside Keogh would be good enough to get us out of this division. Lets get out first then plan on staying out!

Scunny Utd chairman has confirmed bid from Norwich but not the amount :-

Looks like if we want Billy it's going to turn into a bidding war. If Norwich are in for Sharp, is Earnshaw on his way somewhere?

I read somewhere Newcastle had been linked with Earnshaw... can't see that one myself, but might explain why Norwich are looking at costly strikers rather than their usual cheapo signings.

Other rumours up here are linking Billy to Everton and West Brom (whether they go up this afternoon or not) along with Norwich, Sheff Wed and us. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens over the coming weeks...

Past mistakes were blowing cash on players over the hilll, picking up pension money, lacking hunger, and no resale value .... ie most players signed by Jones.

Sorry the exception was The Iceman - not good enough eh Jonesie ??

Sharp and Eastwood do not fit into the over the hill category - they are "young and hungry" so would be fine.

The change that Morgan brings is that "cheap young and hungry" has been replaced by "young and hungry". This enables us to compete for the best up and coming youngsters.

Somebody on the Scunthorpe newspaper has suggested a player exchange with Gary Breen;)
