Albion chairman Jeremy Peace today broke his silence to issue a rallying call for Baggies fans to roar their side back to the Premiership at Wembley.
Peace has kept his own counsel for the past couple of months since outlining proposals for a long-term redevelopment of the Halfords Lane stand at The Hawthorns.
But with Albion having quickly sold out of their 33,000 allocation for Monday’s play-off crunch with Derby, Peace has paid tribute to the fans for their backing.
And he called for one more effort to create a wall of noise at Wembley in a bid to get the Baggies back to the top flight only 12 months after relegation.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, I want to thank our fans for their sensational support both at home and away this season, particularly during the past few games,” said Peace.
“The noise generated on Wednesday night last week against Wolves was nothing short of fantastic.
“The manager asked for the supporters to keep faith with the team during the two play-off semi-final legs no matter how the scores were going - and you certainly did that.
“I’m delighted our terrific fan base has now got a chance to visit the new Wembley, where we will need your support more than ever. We all know what is at stake and if we make one last big effort together, we will give ourselves the best possible chance of reaching our goal.”
Thousands of Albion fans have been left disappointed at not getting a ticket for Monday’s winner-takes-all clash after season ticket holders were given two each. But Peace defended the sale process after leading a delegation in midweek to try to get more tickets.
“We did everything in our power to increase the club’s allocation of just over 33,000 tickets, but were told by Wembley and the Football League this was not possible,” added Peace.
