Steve Morgan’s £30m$ takeover has catapulted Wolves back onto the national stage after a year of reduced expectations and Olofinjana thinks they will be there to be shot at next season.
But the Nigerian international, who had his best season since joining Wolves last year, reckons Mick McCarthy’s men will take it all in their stride.
“Last year we didn’t know what was going to happen,” said Olofinjana. “This time we’re already in a promising position going in to the new season.
“Of course it’s going to be hard, and one thing is that expectations will change.
“Perhaps no-one was anticipating too much from us last season, but with how we’ve done everyone is going to be wanting to beat us.
“We’ll be up there to be shot at, but that shouldn’t be a problem. And if we carry on working as hard as we have done this season then we’ll have a good chance.”
Olofinjana admits he knows little about the takeover, but anticipates some interesting times.
“I suppose it will be exciting times, and if the manager has some money to spend that can only be a good thing,” he said. “Every club needs competition for places, it’s no good always knowing you’re going to be in the team every week.”
Meanwhile, McCarthy insists he is “relaxed” about Olofinjana’s contract situation – even though he anticipates interest in the midfielder.
Olofinjana has begun negotiations on a new deal, but with a year still to run on his current contract the Wolves boss is in no rush.
“Seyi’s got a year left so it’s not necessarily essential this summer,” McCarthy said. “Any player that gets into the position of having a year to go will probably end up with people looking at him.”
