View Full Version : How would you go tomorrow?

The instinct may be to go out all guns blazing tomorrow night, we need to score and win, Albion don't. Personally though I think I'd start reasonably conservatively, if we go at them they'll do us on the break and if they score early, well it's practically game over, the key to tomorrow night is keeping it tight at the back. The longer the game stays level, the more twitchy they'll get and the better for us.
Basically, I'd stick with the same team as Sunday, but I'd start with Ward. He'll run himself into the ground, won't give their defence a moments rest, then if we still need a goal going into the last half hour, bring Bothroyd on, hopefully he can do the same as the league game at the Mol. I'd also be looking to give Davies the 2nd half if we need a goal. I'm sorry but I'm not convinced by Potter, he's average and at least Davies can run at them and give them some different problems from simply spraying the ball sideways.

If you want to start conservatively then maybe starting with Bothroyd would be better?

Olo and Davies won't work as well as Potter/Olo or Potter/Davies. There will be no balance as both players like to attack and move out of position to create. If we're needing a goal in the last 10 mins then fine. But not a whole half. Tesco's will just take advantage!

....when you need a change of pace...bring on Ward as he will "He'll run himself into the ground, won't give their defence a moments rest".

I'd even be tempted to have Jemal Johnson on the bench with Wardy and throw them both on if things get desperate.

I think more of the same from us, its how we play best, high tempo and in the faces of the opposition, WBA wont like to have to face that again so soon, whereas that tempo we are fairly used to.

I was beginning to take you seriously up until this point.
So here we are, going into a game we need to score at least 2, more than likely 3 goals to win & the first thing you would do is drop our joint top scorer & replace him with the Irish Craig Davies??:confused::confused:
Check my posts earlier in the season, I was one of Bothroyd's biggest critics, however its clear to see that he along with Kightly, are our 2 biggest threats to Albion.
'Running yourself into the ground' doesn't get you goals & thats what we need on Wednesday.

Bothroyd has been the most likely of our front players to score recently and we lost a lot of edge when he went off. We must start with him and keep him on as long as possible.
'Start conservatively and keep it tight' ?? We don't have the players for that, and we've got to score goals. Go at the them from the first minute. We might score 3 and have a chance of holding out; or we might score 1 and let 3 in -- but that's the kind of team we are. But if we try to 'keep it tight' we'll still concede, and certainly lose. ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK!

My team:-
Hennessey
Little Craddock Collins McNamara
Kightly Potter Olafinjana McIndoe
Keogh Bothroyd
Oakes, Breen, M Davies, Ward, Johnson
As for tactics I would ask them to do the same again. West Brom were carved up quite easily on Sunday it was just finishing and Kiely that let us down. The problem is that their forwards are so good (and our defence so slow) that they don't need to play well as a team to outscore us.

I don't think it's wise to put Mark Little up against the best player in the league. He will skin him alive !

Its a risk I know but we have to inject some pace into the defence and thats the only option as I see it.

I thought Kightly did his job in terms of negating Koumas. When Kightly was caught up field, we did a good job (Potter mainly) of covering and making sure Koumas was not left with time and space to cause havoc. Little will have watched and learned and i thought he looked much more composed when he came on against Albion. He certainly kept Kamara's diagonal runs in check because of his pace and the one time Koumas looked like going past Little, he kept his eye on the ball, didn't go to ground and the ball ran out for a goal kick - quality defending.
Get behind the lad, with confidence he can handle Koumas.(he's not Ronaldinho ffs)

Well said W24. He's got the pace to recover. Solid when he came on on Sunday, and he gets forward like a gazelle.
It's a risk/option worth taking imo.

I'm sure Big Mick will name his usual team. They've come a long way this season dispite their obvious limitations and I can't see him making any changes now. Changes are even less likely tomorrow, when he's got a young goalkeeper making only his second appearance in the team.
He hasn't got much of a choice, certainly in defensive positions. Collins to centre-back? Mark Little at right-back? It's a tempting call in view of the painfully slow centre-back pairing, but, I was at Palace and sadly the faults in Mark's play were again there for all to see. He's got pace but unfortunately he gets pulled out of position and his tackling is often immature.

Everyone would choose this team except MM. As for how to play tomorrow night, score as many as we can in the first half and then hold on tight.

:DLOL, it's going to go like that...it always does. I'm starting to feel sick at the thought!
I intend to start by having several drinks for a couple of hours then geeting on the coach to the poorthawhorns, singing myself hoarse, and then by kick off, I probably wont notice id its little or collins at rb. However, lets get behind 'em
Shoot from everywhere - our own bloody goal line if needs be!!!

As worrisome as it might be, I think Breen will keep his place and we'll put out the same team as Sunday. I do think that Mick will telll his players to stick it up 'em for the first 30 mins or so and keep at it. I think he will want us to rattle them, hoping to put them out of their stride and get an early goal, or force them into stupid tackles, get them on a couple of yellow early on, which will put more pressure on their defence for the second half of the game. I am hoping/praying/begging that one of the Tesco's' will see red in the first half.
