ProudWolf 14-05-2007, 12:43 My source is Sky Sports News Darko Pancev 14-05-2007, 12:45 http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=466601&CPID=8&clid=111&lid=4161&title=JEWELL+STEPS+DOWN+AT+WIGAN FoetalYouth 14-05-2007, 12:46 Fair enough. Sounds like a good enough excuse to take a lunch break and head over to the kitchen where the TV is!! simmo 14-05-2007, 12:46 Yet another great manager who, in years gone by, I would have said "I'd love him to take over from (insert inept Wolves manager here)" How refreshing that now MM is in charge, I don't have to think like that anymore. brummywolf 14-05-2007, 12:47 Off to Man City... Good decision for both Wigan and Jewell. I feel he's taken them as far as he can- they were very poor for the majority of the season. If he gets the Man City job it will be interesting to see how he copes with their 'big club' status, considering how he flopped at Sheff Weds. AndyP 14-05-2007, 12:49 Sauce? brown please, no butter on the bread! :) Bertiewolf 14-05-2007, 12:57 Off to Man City... Good decision for both Wigan and Jewell. If he gets the Man City job it will be interesting to see how he copes with their 'big club' status, considering how he flopped at Sheff Weds. Not to mention the fans, who according to jewell chatting to a pal of mine at his golf club the day after, spent the whole match at COMS spitting at the dugout and calling him a scouse **** Moira Stewart 14-05-2007, 12:58 Jewell has done a terrific job at Wigan, but unless he gets some money I can't see him doing any better than Pearce at Man City. Be interesting to see who Wigan go for as their next manager, Mick McCarthy anyone?? Bertiewolf 14-05-2007, 13:00 Jewell has done a terrific job at Wigan, but unless he gets some money I can't see him doing any better than Pearce at Man City. MM won't leave us - wimabigclub ;) Dougal McGuire 14-05-2007, 13:05 News conference at 1500 BST Big Mack 14-05-2007, 13:06 Yet another great manager who, in years gone by, I would have said "I'd love him to take over from (insert inept Wolves manager here)" How refreshing that now MM is in charge, I don't have to think like that anymore. Give it time Simmo, give it time ;) Goldwolf 14-05-2007, 13:10 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/wigan_athletic/6653185.stm Seems to be true. LoyalWolf 14-05-2007, 13:31 Didn't he do the same at Bradford when they survived on the last day? paddingtonwolf 14-05-2007, 13:33 yes - to go to sheffield wednesday. this was of course a roaring success for professional scouser Jewell. brummywolf 14-05-2007, 13:44 To be fair there was nothing wrong with taking the Sheff Weds job- apart from the fact they were in a lower division. Weds were in Division one and were potentially a much bigger club with massive gates. Unfortunately the club was in huge decline at the time and it seemed to be the downfall of quite a few managers who took the job on like Chris Turner. The Vicar 14-05-2007, 13:47 So history does repeat itself. Have to say that I see Jewell as very much a small club manager. The first time he managed a club with expectation he failed miserably. If he had come here he would wilt under the weight of expectation. Powelly 14-05-2007, 14:08 Chris coleman will probably take the Wigan job IMO scottishwolf II 14-05-2007, 14:09 Bizarre how far Pearce's reputation has fallen. From potential England Manager to other managers resigning their posts to take his job. The England talk was ridiculous but its interesting to see how badly wrong its gone. He has bought really badly as well - wonder where he'll turn up next... HIGHLANDER 14-05-2007, 14:09 I don't see how the same people that say Mick McCarthy is brilliant can slag offf Jewell.I accept that MM has done a fantastic job at Wolves but I can also see that Jewell has performed a miracle at Wigan. After putting together and managing arguably the worse ever top flight team McCarthy has a lot more to prove than Jewell does. Bahama Wolf 14-05-2007, 14:17 [quote=Powelly;397333]Chris coleman will probably take the Wigan job Agreed. Its him or Roeder me thinks Chris Hutchings!!! ooh la la 14-05-2007, 16:06 Pearce sacked, looks like Jewel to City then. Hibbitt was King 14-05-2007, 16:08 Lo and behold - Pearce is sacked! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/6655007.stm brummywolf 14-05-2007, 16:11 Chris Hutchings....christ, I remember he was terrible when he took over from Jewell at Bradford Jack Regan 14-05-2007, 16:23 A Les Reedesque appointment by Wigan methinks. paddingtonwolf 14-05-2007, 16:24 I give him until about mid-October brummywolf 14-05-2007, 16:26 With the teams coming up from the Championship, it's going to be a very difficult task for teams like Wigan to stay up next year- and I think that task has just been made that little bit harder. RichRalph 14-05-2007, 16:41 Some Managers do well in one job and then for some reason are rubbish in another job. Just highlights how the job of the manager is over-rated in my opinion. But they all now have the tag of "football manager" so they will all get jobs somewhere - unless they can talk well, in which case Sky will have them. (The acception being Trevor Francis who is both crap as a manager and crap as a TV pundit). O.W.E.I 14-05-2007, 16:48 And crap as a comedian/singer - I mean who can forget 'Funky Moped'? |
