Good decision for both Wigan and Jewell. I feel he's taken them as far as he can- they were very poor for the majority of the season. If he gets the Man City job it will be interesting to see how he copes with their 'big club' status, considering how he flopped at Sheff Weds.

yes - to go to sheffield wednesday. this was of course a roaring success for professional scouser Jewell.

To be fair there was nothing wrong with taking the Sheff Weds job- apart from the fact they were in a lower division. Weds were in Division one and were potentially a much bigger club with massive gates. Unfortunately the club was in huge decline at the time and it seemed to be the downfall of quite a few managers who took the job on like Chris Turner.

So history does repeat itself. Have to say that I see Jewell as very much a small club manager. The first time he managed a club with expectation he failed miserably. If he had come here he would wilt under the weight of expectation.

Bizarre how far Pearce's reputation has fallen. From potential England Manager to other managers resigning their posts to take his job. The England talk was ridiculous but its interesting to see how badly wrong its gone. He has bought really badly as well - wonder where he'll turn up next...

I don't see how the same people that say Mick McCarthy is brilliant can slag offf Jewell.I accept that MM has done a fantastic job at Wolves but I can also see that Jewell has performed a miracle at Wigan. After putting together and managing arguably the worse ever top flight team McCarthy has a lot more to prove than Jewell does.

With the teams coming up from the Championship, it's going to be a very difficult task for teams like Wigan to stay up next year- and I think that task has just been made that little bit harder.

Some Managers do well in one job and then for some reason are rubbish in another job. Just highlights how the job of the manager is over-rated in my opinion.

But they all now have the tag of "football manager" so they will all get jobs somewhere - unless they can talk well, in which case Sky will have them. (The acception being Trevor Francis who is both crap as a manager and crap as a TV pundit).
