Does anyone else think someone in the role of Frank Arneson would be beneficial to the club-to scout and to shortlist prospects/decent acquisitions. It seems to me (without being a knee jerk reaction to Anderton's possible signing) that our scouting system leaves a lot to be desired. Why do we seem unable to go for exciting young players from Scandinavia etc etc? Look at the players we've tried to sign in the past couple of seasons- Gascoigne, Bjorklund etc.

Offer someone like Roy Hodgson/Mick Wadsworth the job with a brief of liasing with Hoddle in drawing up lists of players we can go for. True it would mean an extra wage bill, but still only a fraction of the failed panic buys we;ve had to endure over the years. Anyone remember Robbie Slatersmileys/smiley18.gif?

They never work though, it just ends up with the manager getting in a huff and leaving a la Redknapp, or with the team signing every player in sight i.e. Spurs.

Thats true, but if his appointment was strictly on the basis of non-involvement with the coaching aspect of it.

That's the problem though mate, strictly doesn't come into things where footballs involved.

Gary Johnson of Yeovil, a proper manager, knows the smaller countries of Eastern Europe and the former Russian republics like the 'back of his hand.'

Didn't he manage Latvia for a while? Well handy knowledge that is!

BS, DJ knows Portugal well, so they say, but not sure it done the Wolves any good.smileys/smiley2.gif

Mick Wadsworth?! He would not be in any way of benefit to use whatsoever.

Bobby Houghton would be a good choice

In any other business they would probably be out of a job if it was linked with results.

But its been going on for years and years- it seems that we have to sign 5 players in order to get one that is actually any good. Its happened since at least the McGhee/Lee years dispite the change in scouting personel- i think the whole structure needs to be looked at.

I know this position would be way to radical for wolves to fulfill but someone like Houghton who has worked in England/China/Sweden/South Korea/Middle east/USA/Switzerland with his contacts would be someone ideal.

Ashamed to say that i watched his Uzbek team beat Kuwait the other day in a world cup qualifiersmileys/smiley36.gifIn fact JM i'd be up for the job- give me 50% of what Arneson's getting at Chelsea and a new copy of FM 2006 and we;d be well on our wayEdited by: UEAwolf

If anyone says Bully, I'm going for my lunch. In fact I'll do that anyway.

I think DoF's are a recipe for trouble. We have to rely on the judgement of GH. He knows how he wants to play and the type of players he needs. He has shown already that he is not going round wasting money on possibilities. I trust his judgement on all things football.

My objection to a DoF does not mean that I would necessarily object to someone coming in and working under the direction of Hoddle, but it would have to be someone whom he trusts and who understands his way of thinking. How about his brother Carl?

When we add the technical directors costs to the wage bill we won't be able to afford anybody anyway.

We have sa scouting system in place already. If its not doing the job replace it - not add to it.
