Noticed on another thread that there is the possibility that Brum could face a points deduction for failing to fulfil a fixture. Seems a bit harsh to me even though it might - or might not - do us a favour in the course of the season. It did get me thinking about points deductions in general, though. It is not a punishment meted out very often, but if it were, could it not be used to improve other aspects of the game?
Just my own point of view but if there is one thing that really, really annoys me is players diving. The buggers get caught on camera and what happens? They might get a fine but that's about it. I know it's never likely to happen but if the club faced a points deduction for a player caught red handed we might see a lot less of it.
Brum's pitch mess up was just that - a mess up. It doesn't particularly bother me one way or the other but the cheating *%$**&s we see week in week out are doing far more damage to the game.

Anything else you'd dock points for?

Points should be deducted for any kind of cheating by representatives of a club, be they players, administrators or owners.
Your new turf being washed out is bad luck/innefficiency but not cheating.

I think points should be automatically deducted for any team playing in blue and white stripes.

I don't see how you can deduct points for players diving anymore than you could for persistent fouling.

The way to stop diving is to ban the player for a lot longer - the club still has to pay his wages and if they're not getting to use him for 10 or so games, a quarter of the season - it should have some effect. Ronaldo would only get to play 3 games a season at that rate.

Having a Birmingham post code will do for me. That gets rid of two vile clubs in one go.

inviting a referee to one of your player's testimonial, getting the crowd to give him a standing ovation when the referee failed to send said player off for striking an opponent in a play-off game before he went on to score a contentious winner. God I hate Bolton

I know, its been 12 years and I'm as bitter now as I was then.

Especially when you consider the polarising fortunes of the two clubs since.

Talking of Bolton - every team should be deducted any points they win from any game refereed by Uriah Rennie - until he's been driven out of football for good. As if I didn't hate Bolton enough before that game. Fat Sam can $$$$$$ off too.
