...why England are 4th behind Russia when we've got a better goal difference?

in fact, the whole table listings seem to be ridiculous. Why are France 3rd behind two teams that they are equal on points with, but have a better goal difference, goals scored and goals conceded than?
Makes absolutely no sense at all.

Results between 2 teams count over GD. Ukraine went above Scotland due to the fact that had beaten them.
No idea why Russia are above us though as we haven't played them yet

Russia drew with Croatia and Israel we lost and drew. Therefore they have a better record than us.
