Currently on loan from Preson to Southport - scored the other night.

Joining Wolves in the summer according to his brother who is a pupil at the school where a pal of mine teaches.

Southport don't score many goals! They're about 9 points off safety and everyone else has got about 48 games in hand over them. Weymouth's keeper scored a Paul Robinson-esque winner against them the other week. Maybe we should sign him instead.

So bored that I went on the Southport website..says nothing about him being on loan from Preston?

Carl Baker 7 26/12/1982 Another midfielder who is a hot prospect. A real talent with dazzling close ball control and an eye for goal. Already an England International under Paul Fairclough. Toured Botswana this summer with Middlesex Wanderers, last summer was in China. Was with Liverpool at schoolboy level, signed for Southport from Prescot Cables. Has been in excellent form recently and is attracting much interest.

The bloke I spoke to is a scout for Liverpool as well as being a teacher. I tend to think he has a certain amount of credibility.

The goal he scored the other night, was that the penalty which was initially saved by the keeper (saved penalty that sounds familar). Seem to remember listening to part of the game on radio Merseyside.

Don't know anything about this lad so this point is irrelevant but it is possible to start that late in the football league. Ian Taylor was 24 when he signed for Port Vale and went on to make over 600 career appearances.

I seem to remember in an old magazine interview (one he did alongside Kevin "Bambi on ice" Francis of all people), he said there was a point where every body thought he was good enough but too old to turn pro until John Rudge took a chance.

In two years after buying him for £15,000 they sold him for £1 million. (Rudgie was eventually sacked because the board thought the club was bigger than it is!).

End of the day, we can't disgard these potential gems without seeing them. Remember the response when people heard we were getting Kights - most people questioned Mick. Now we have one of, if not THE most influential wingers in the division.

As long as he has a mare against Stafford on Saturday I don't mind.

Carl Baker has been there a while I think, his previous club was Prescot Cables and not Preston!!

He's not good enough to make it as a pro IMO

Didn't we sign Andy Mutch from Southport? Highly irrelevant to this player, just thought I'd get confirmation.

What makes you say this?

Because I've seen him play enough times. for every Kightly in the Conference, there are tons of Carl Baker's

We did in 1986, don't know how much for though. He ended up back there as a player/coach (I think) in 1999.
