...according to itv (2 goals, 17 crosses), any thoughts?

He is probably playing his best football for wolves at the moment. Better than Potter, but not better than Davies.

I have been impressed with the upturn in form of some players since McCarthy's joined, just shows what a coach with more interest in the club than himself can do.

17 crosses? It was our Seyi George Olifannywotsit and not 'the other one' ?

This is precisely why I despair when I see some on here slagging him off. He has been one of our best players this season and really made the difference when he came on yesterday. At Norwich he was a real leader and it was great to see how pumped up he was when he ran over to our fans at the end.

Some see the odd challenge that he might do better in and trash everything else he does as a result.

The guy is a real asset and will only get better.

he made a difference yesterday but he has had some poor games this year(07) compared to the start of the season.
now he is scoring as well he seems to have grown in confidence.
deserves to be in team of the month

It was Championship Team Of The Month for January, not the week.

I've always said that in a 4-5-1 he was our most in-form player and he scored lots of goals to back that up.

Sorry, my bad, it was the month! Was watching it whilst I was typing, so I haven't got a clue why I put week!!

He's only just trying to get on my myspace friends again. The moment I add him back he'll be rubbish!

I dont rate either of them (Olofinjana OR Potter) . Severe limitations. Time will tell.

Olo is more useful than Potter, but then he was more expensive! Davies is better than both and he cost nothing.

Quality so we drop him?

Luckily for Nigeria's answer to Wayne Sleep, the team of the month is selected using opta stats. I.D. stats are a bit more harsh, players get negative marks for giving away possession cheaply, hitting shots with power that a 12 year old girl would be embarassed by and wimping out of tackles that are 60/40 in their favour.

But he can score which is better than Micks 1st main 3 strikers, and as we a hardly full of goals it was a bizarre decision to leave him out.

Quality so we drop him?At the minute I personally think Potter is the better choice in a 4-4-2 going on Seyi's past performances in that formation, so I agree with McCarthy I suppose. I'd love Seyi to prove me wrong though.

Not as bizarre as the decision to drop Mark Davies. I haven't seen anything to say that Davies is injured, why leave him out? Davies and Kightly are far and away the most exciting players at the club, when either of them get the ball there is a buzz around the ground. They both trouble opposition mid-field players and defenders with their direct running and passing, should be the first two names on the team sheet (as the cliché goes).

I hope you are not questioning Micks ability to judge the quality of players. Cause he has signed some quality........

I cant see how Henry (stoke reserve) is better than Olo or Davies.

You've lost me there. Karl Henry has played for England at U18, U20 and U21 levels. The manager who kept him in the reserves had as much sense as the manager who doesn't play Mark Davies.

Karl Henry has been the most consistant ( good ) player this season. His job is defensive midfield and he does it effectively. If we had 10 other players who played as well in their positions we would be near the top of this division.

I just find him ponderous on the ball and slows play down has to think about most things he's not Micks worst buy by a long shot, but I would sit Olo deeper in the holding role with Davies breaking forward. The holding role is about closing space and when the ball is recovered the 1st phase from defence to attack. Henrys is good at the defensive bit but the attacking element of the role is limited.

I stopped reading this rubbish when you suggested playing our top scorer in defensive midfield. Go back where you came from Hoddle.

Sorry, but you've lost it there.

Henry's job is to close down the ball in midfield, win it and then retain possession once he's won it. He doesn't NEED to make any attacking passes, it's not his job. He does his job very well.

In fact he DOES get forward and has scored a couple of goals not so long ago and was key to the Norwich goal last Tuesday, so excuse me if I think you're being idiotically critical.

No problem we are all allowed different views. He doesn't have to play it forward just recycle the ball quicker - be it laying the ball back to a full back or wide to one of the wingers. But he does hold the ball for to long this allows the opposition to regroup.

I may be being over critical, but watching Neil Lennon at 35 he is at the centre of everything but doesnt move much above a walking pace, but keeps the momentum of the play going almost two touch football, even more so under WGS who has upped the speed of moving the ball from back to front with simple passes that create time a space for his team mates.

Henry is not a bad player. I said I preferred Olo and Davies I think they are better footballers technically (cant understand why MM doesnt pick Davies). In the Albion game Henry would have been ideal doing a man marking job on Koumas. In the same way Juninio was marked out of the game when Leicester won the league cup. This is part of the problem I have with MM, he doesnt adapt to situations. Because the squad is so weak we have to adapt to situations not turn up 442 or 451 and let the opposition worry about us we arent good enough.

We would get ripped apart throught the middle without Henry, his importance should not be underestimated. Yes we have a squad system and players will be in and out of the team, but for first choice Henry is number one on the teamsheet for me. It's a case of who best compliments him and what system we use.
At home it must be 442 with Henry, McIndoe, Kightly and one other from Potter, Davies, or Olifinjana. I would personally go for Mark Davies as he goes past players and puts defenders on the back foot(and he is so not a winger).
Away from home then Olifinjana, Potter, Henry should be the middle three with M Davies on the bench. The only problem we may have is if Keogh and Ward start hitting it off we will have to sacrifice a midfeilder away from home and go for it.

Not a bad problem to have. This is a new young team still learning to be a team, but MM is getting a number of options assembled. Time will tell how successful these players are and if not I have faith it will be adjusted again with some new players. We all like to win, but the progress already made over a short period is excellent even if we drop points right now. Lets hope Keogh and Ward make a go of it..... s'funny we dont hear much about Carl Cort anymore.

The Bear

Cort won't play for Wolves again if the unofficial mutterings from the recent Parliament meeting are to be believed.

IIRC he's out of contract at the end of this season.

But are you really surprised at some of the stuff that's said AW?

Olifinjana is a much improved player this season and maybe at long long last we are seeing his true worth. Those who choose to slate the lad can't see much further than their unchanging dislike of him no matter what he does.

Being left out on Saturday whilst Potter started was a poor decision IMV and the team looked far better when Oli came on.
