Wasnt there some talk of him being demoted after the shambles of the game at the weekend?

EDIT:Actually thats only for league games. As you were.

We've had this kind of reaction for the last two games he's reffed us, and the pre-match angst came to nothing when he wasn't anything like as bad as predicted.

true but his last two games werent a derby game where the game should be allowed to flow and a few challenges let go

Would you be saying that if its our players on the receiving end?

I suspect not.

He shouldn't be allowed to referee another football match in his life. Totally incompetent poser and must be a political appointment.

When I read the thread title I though "Anyone but that $$$$ Rennie". Bingo!!

Like Powelly says completely the wrong choice for a heated derby game. He hasn't got the intelligence to manage a game like this properly.

I can see him whistling for everything and thoroughly $$$$ing everyone off. I expect a thread on here by 2pm Sunday saying whata $$$$ he was.

I'll start the thread now Bear, he was bloody useless!!

A dreadful choice. Whistle happy ego-maniac for a local derby in the FA Cup. Top work by the FA.

We were lucky....
He's already put in one pitiful inflammatory performance at Preston this season.
If this man starts with his dramatics and biased decision-making again there could be big trouble.

obviously not if a rash challenge which causes injury but rennie is the kind of ref who gives "petty" free kicks for nothing tackles... therfore not the right referee for a derby game which is all about a heated battle between 2 sides rather than a stop/start game

and also the kind of referre which can "incite" crowd problems by awful decisions.. uve obviously forgotten that easter monday game against bolton

To be fair there arent many referees around who could claim to have a good match every single week....

We have been on the receiving end in some games against Sandwell. If we have got this vain prat on Sunday, I hope he goes card crazy if the studs start flying. And I hope he's had a refresher course on what type of offence leads to a penalty kick.

I must admit I was hoping it *would* be him - it all adds to the general excitement. All we need now is some welsh fans in a blimp above Molineux and the stage will be set.

Rennie reffed the game we beat them 3-1 (Megson's "it could have been eight"). If I remember, he reffed that game quite well.

Wolverhampton: Oakes, Pollet, Lescott, Muscat, Naylor, Robinson, Proudlock, Andrews, Sinton, Ndah, Branch. Subs: Osborn, Stowell, Camara, Roussel, Robert Taylor.

West Brom: Hoult, Van Blerk, Carbon, Butler, Lyttle, Clement, Appleton, Sneekes, Fox, Roberts, Hughes. Subs: Jensen, Taylor, Jordao, Sigurdsson, Balis.

Referee: U Rennie (Sheffield)

Excellent choice.
I now take everything back I've said about the atmosphere at sundays game. There is no way the Albion will outsing the Wolves fans now. The only thing that inspires the two main stands into noise is a rubbish ref.

That team was intersting. How much better off do we look for Sunday's game?

Oakes - Murray
Pollet - Collins
Lescott - Breen
Muscat - Little
Naylor - McNamara
Robinson - Potter
Proudlock - Ricketts (shame Kightly's cup-tied)
Andrews - Henry
Sinton - McIndoe
Ndah - Davies
Branch - Davies (shame Keogh's cup-tied)

Tv doesn't make a difference with that kung fo knob. Southampton away, when he gave the most unbelievable penalty ever, wasn't on the box and neither was Bolton at home. Will never ever forgive him for those games...

Also remember the media that weekend harping on about Pires winning a penalty against Pompey that was dubious. No mention of Rennie's penalty decision, where Irwin must of used his invisible go go gadget leg to bring Philips down!!

Chiswick_Wolf

Its a shame Rennie let fame go to his head. I remember seeing him refereeing what must be ten or so years ago when he was climbing up the refereeing ladder and he was really excellent and I remember alot of other people saying the same thing. He was young and athletic and commanded respect from the players. Then he started appearing in adverts etc and suddenly felt that he was the person that people were going to see at the Uriah Rennie show. A few of the games that he's reffed at Molineux in the early noughties were absolutely terrible - such that both sets of fans turned on him! Lets hope he lets the game just simmer and gets involved only when is required!

Uncle Festa
23-01-2007, 15:38
Agree with that Chiswick. He was, without doubt, the best ref I'd seen down the Molineux when he first arrived on the scene.

Good question Kenny but what are the odds, if he is the ref for the WBA game, of someone being sent off? Hope it's one of theirs and not one of ours!

You're dead right there, was going to post something similar. Nothing like some dodgy decisions going in favour of the away side to create an atmosphere in the stands.

Hope there's no lightning striking twice.....

I also agree Chiswick....he was a good referee but like all ref's he makes mistakes.....unfortunately one or two were high profile and the press got after him. Everything he then did was magnified to such a level that whenever he made a mistake he became a figure of ridicule.

No matter what he's done, he hasn't made the kind of mistake Poll made in the World Cup....or ever appeared quite as arrogant.

To be fair it wasn't so much the press as a number of managers who had a good old whinge and got fined for it. Or not in DJ's case?

Yup, I thought the same at the time. Hard to believe he was the same ref who was in charge of *that* Bolton game. $$$
