Just got back from Benicassim. The best festival I have ever been to.

Of course there will be an extended xtra contingent at V next week.

I did try and get a dj slot there for the friday but couldnt get in touch with anyone in the know. shame really. i'll see what i can rig up unofficially. look for an xtra flag on the camp site.

My mate's just got back from Benicassim too, he's been the last two years. I was going to go with him this year, but as above, the cash isn't there at the moment.

you cannot beat a festival full of great bands, all playing on a hot dry night and lounging on the beach all day.

Probably a good thing given your predilection for James Blunt and Gay Dad.

Whats your opinion on the must see bands/acts next weekend then? Although I don’t particularly like them, I think Kaiser Chiefs will be seminal. I’d also like to see Sonic Youth and Ian Brown ( as long as he feels like singing slightly in tune ).

A remember being at V a few years ago absolutely spannered and Wolves played Blackburn. I’d signed up to the text service with goal alerts etc. The 1-5 score not only sobered me up, but cost me a small fortune. </DIV>

Ian Brown was excellent at Glastonbury, started his set with three Roses tunes andeven sangin tune.

That Kaiser chiefs albums a big disappointment there's 3 or 4 good tracks and that's it. Some of the stuff towards the end is just rubbish like "Well it's time honoured tradition To get enough nutrition Stay alive until you die And that is the end of you" smileys/smiley5.gif

I'm off to Leeds and I can't bloody wait. V would have been good to see Ian Brown and Oasis but the rest of the lineup just doesn't stand up to what's on offer at Leeds IMO.

Agreed re the Kaiser Chiefs general mediocrity. However they are now becoming a housewifes favourite ‘NA NA NA NA NA’ and I expect a huge crowd for the second stage as they are on pretty early.

Looking forward to Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Doves andmost of all Embrace. Saw them in San Francisco in June in front of about 200 people should be a bit different next week!!

I've been lucky enough to see Ian Brown twice in the last few months both were fantastic, its well worth trying to get tickets for his upcoming tour in November.

Are the LA's on at Leeds? I've seen them twice recently and they were also amazing.

I felt the same about the Kaiser Chiefs album, a few stand out tracks and some fillers. However seeing them on a second stage last week they really blew me away. One of my highlights of the festival.

Seen Ian Brown 3 times now. You'd think I'd learn by my mistakes.... awful
live. You may as well put stephen hawkins on stage, He'd sound better.

Ian Brown was one of my first heroes (I had a rather disillusioned childhood!) so to see him would be awesome in itself. However, like the comments on hear, I've heard he can be a bit hit-and-miss.

Highlights for Leeds at the moment are probably Maximo Park (seen them twice already, totally awesome live set) and the Charlatans who I've yet to see.

Snowy that sounds like one hell of an end to the whole festival. Arguably two of the best British bands about at the moment (and have been for a few years now).

Gay Dad! superb.

As for must see bands at V i really must try and see the super fury animals. they are on the smallest stage, should be quite intimate, i think they on same time as oasis, so once i have seen a little of those and got bored i may well get blown away by the furry ones.

Also Doves are always a good show, and i would like to see what the 22-20's have to offer. I missed GLC last year so that will be entertaining, and i would like to see how the polyphonic spree all fit on the stage!

I will gladly miss theperenial boredom that is embrace and replace it with the energy of the music.

Electronically the chemical bros are always superb but again there is a bit of a foxture pile up thereand i hope to catch some of goldfrapp.

I thought he was good at Glasto, it was a better choice than going to see Basement Kaxxx anyway! I'd say "Fear" was one of my tunes of the festival along with "This Modern Love" Bloc Party and (somewhat suprisingly) "Fix You" Cold Play. Make sure you see Bloc though they just seem to get tighter every time I see them.
