View Full Version : Jon Stead or Chris Brown ProudWolf 10-01-2007, 11:27 Sunderland have accepted bids for both of these strikers from unnamed clubs. Wonder if we're after Brown who is a big centre forward type whom Mick signed during his time there. Del Woppio 10-01-2007, 11:28 I quite like Brown - no for Stead though. Jamboon 10-01-2007, 11:30 I would think Stead's bid will be from Derby, not sure who this Chris Brown is? ProudWolf 10-01-2007, 11:30 I quite like Brown - no for Stead though. Yeah i agree. I've always been impressed when i've seen Brown play on tv. Jamboon 10-01-2007, 11:31 Is this him? http://netfan.pl/images/upload/chris brown-chris brown_low.jpg Flitwick Wolf 10-01-2007, 11:31 Yeah i agree. I've always been impressed when i've seen Brown play on tv. It's Chris Brown, not Wes. ;) Jamboon 10-01-2007, 11:32 I quite like Brown :D Del Woppio 10-01-2007, 11:32 He's 22/23, 6ft+, strong and quite quick for his build. Like a Leon CLarke who works and can finish. Del Woppio 10-01-2007, 11:36 Brown by name, Brown by nature. You're one witty mofo. Wonder Boyo 10-01-2007, 11:37 Chris Brown seems like a good player, always performed well the times I've seen him and he featured in Sunderland's promotion season but Mick didn't give him many outings in their Premiership season. If we are in for any of the 2 I think it would be him, it was McCarthy who promoted him to the Sunderland's first team and obviously knows him very well. Jamboon 10-01-2007, 11:38 I would think Stead's bid will be from Derby I would think wrong http://www.safc.com/news/?page_id=11441 Moira Stewart 10-01-2007, 11:46 I would think wrong http://www.safc.com/news/?page_id=11441 If Derbys bid was rejected I would doubt we would put in a bigger bid than them, Blues and Albion both seem after a striker could be them. fenella 10-01-2007, 11:48 Chris Brown seems like a good player, always performed well the times I've seen him and he featured in Sunderland's promotion season According to soccerbase, he played 37 league games that season, and scored, er, 5 goals. Not quite as good as Leon Clarke's 5 in 23 this season. And he was playing in a team that scored 76 times. He's scored 3 in 16 this season. Perhaps he's not the out-an-out striker that we need? kennyB 10-01-2007, 11:50 Right on fenella. ROVERT47 10-01-2007, 11:52 Stead is crap,i hadn't heard of the other chap until today. So,no thanks. Jamboon 10-01-2007, 11:54 Not many people had heard of Neill Collins who was in a similar situation at Sunderland and he looks like a good signing. fenella 10-01-2007, 11:59 Surely we need someone who is better than the strikers we have got, which means someone from the lower leagues who can make the step up, someone from the Premiership who can find his true level, or someone from the Championship who is already doing it and therefore costs a lot of money. Neither of Sunderland's strikers seem to meet this criterion. They just seem like very average, low-scoring, Championship strikers - and we have 5 of those already. Moira Stewart 10-01-2007, 12:01 I have to agree, these two might be reasonable strikers but we need a goalscorer and judging by their statistics of 3 in 16 and 3 in 17 this season neither would appear to fit the bill. WISAW 10-01-2007, 12:09 Check the link, Chris has been a naughty boy, in the Dwight Yorke sense! Not the kind of thing we want at our club to be honest! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Brown_%28footballer%29 westside wolf 10-01-2007, 12:35 i actually think Stead is a decent player when his confidence is good. He was class at Huddersfield and at Blackburn for a time, its only really Sunderland where it has gone wrong for him, albeit very badly, for something like 200k i think he would be a good signing. Taffywolf 10-01-2007, 12:51 i actually think Stead is a decent player when his confidence is good. Agree with you Westside, I have always though Jon Stead was a decent player, At the right price he would be worth a go, He was pretty close to getting a full England cap when he was at Blackburn, And was very highly rated at that time. Things haven't worked out for him at Sunderland but these things happen sometime, But Mick will know everything about him from their time together so if he does go after him it's because he knows he can do a job for us.. Uncle Festa 10-01-2007, 13:29 I agree as well Westside. Stead is better than anyone we have at the moment with the exception of Boothroyd when he is a)fit and b) wants to play The Bear 10-01-2007, 13:48 McCarthy may know all about Stead as he signed him, but we also know just how 'successful' Stead was at Sunderland. He's hardly done great at Derby either. In the boxing day game he played ok but couldn't finish for toffee. We already know that feeling all too well. stever 10-01-2007, 13:54 I would be disappointed if either of them came to wolves. They've hardly ripped up any trees this season!! Sheriff Woody 10-01-2007, 15:00 Don't know too much about Brown to be honest, although when I've seen him on the telly he's looked alright. Stead though would be a decent signing in my opinion, a big strong lad, would fit into the current system well. We know that he knows where the goal is from his time at Huddersfield and the early Blackburn days. Not sure what went wrong at Sunderland bar playing in a team that was in disarray at the time. I thought he looked good for Derby against us, better than Howard anyway. We know McCarthy knows them well so maybe he has made a move for one of them. Big yes but when i've seen him he doesn't seem to be very strong ProudWolf 10-01-2007, 16:01 Well the deals don't involve us. Stead to Sheffield United. Brown to Norwich. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/sunderland/6247957.stm Moira Stewart 10-01-2007, 16:02 My Sunderland supporting mate says Brown is a rambunctious young striker, just what we need. wolfyjoe 10-01-2007, 17:31 Where does it say Sheffield United and Norwich?? wolfyjoe 10-01-2007, 17:31 And what the $$$$ does rambunctious mean?? gaz kford 10-01-2007, 17:37 And what the $$$$ does rambunctious mean?? Jamboon 11-01-2007, 09:17 £1,000,000 is the figure being banded around for Stead personally i'd sooner have Akinbiyi and £250,000 in my pocket wolfie smith 11-01-2007, 10:03 stead to sheff utd £1m according to bbc site and sky. MM knows brown so i suppose he could be ours Wonder Boyo 11-01-2007, 10:21 Where does it say Sheffield United and Norwich?? Still sooner have Akinbiyi saturday boy 11-01-2007, 10:33 £1,000,000 is the figure being banded around for Stead personally i'd sooner have Akinbiyi and £250,000 in my pocket I'd rather keep the whole £1million in my pocket. scottishwolf II 11-01-2007, 10:33 scored 11 goals in 67 Sounds like he may already be on our books with a goals to game ratio like that. Mr Wolf 11-01-2007, 15:17 For the life of me I cannot understand why Sheff U have signed John Stead who didn't prove himself in the championship at two of the stronger clubs in the division. It's going to be on of those circumstances is it, now I've slated the deal he will score the goal that keeps them up on the last day. fenella 11-01-2007, 15:48 For the life of me I cannot understand why Sheff U have signed John Stead who didn't prove himself in the championship at two of the stronger clubs in the division. Because Warnock is completely hopeless when it comes to spending money in the transfer market. He compensates for this lack of ability by being very good in all other aspects of being a football manager. |
