If we had a forward we would be a lot higher up the league this is what we need.

Never tire of seeing these they should show them to all new strikers on their first day at the club.
Can remember the winner at the poorthorns as if it were yesterday. Love the one against Blooze especially given the comeback but also for the way the crowd reacted behind the goal, how was there not an involuntary pitch invasion?

I like people to now i first posted this before the Blues game :)
Hopefully the "investment" we might be receiving in January means we can go after Sharpe and Keogh after all. :0)

Sharpe and Boothroyd up front would be a handful.. But just as important would be a couple of quality midfielders.....

Are you going to refer to him as 'Boothroyd' all season long??
We've already got the quality in midfield IMO. We just need players back from injury and for MM to find the right blend.
Rosa, Davies, Kightly to come in. Plus, Gobern looks more and more likely to start games.
In the new year, our midfield might look a bit like this:
Gobern/Kightly - Henry - Davies - Ricketts
which is a lot more potent than it is at the moment.

What about luke varney from crewe? This kid looks to have lots of potential and would only cost 600k. Cheaper than billy sharpe .
I also saw a well taken goal on football league goals from a guy called will hoskins. Apparently he's scored 10 for rotherham this season and there has been one of those guardian scouting reports about him. Would cost 750k.

If Varney goes anywhere he'd go to the Premiership. He is in the Eastwood category. Out of our league.

Hoskins is about 20 and has played for England at various representative levels. Apparently he is not the strongest mentally and has a serious back problem (prolapsed disc(s)?) that needs injections every three to six months. But he is quick and a good finisher when confident. This from someone involved with Rotherham who reckons he would need another season or two before someone would be willing to gamble on him and because of the back it would be a gamble.

Breen, Davies, Bothroyd. No problem.
How long is Bothroyd going to dine out on that last minute goal against Leeds? Its almost 3 months ago ffs.
What has been his contribution since??
Johnson did more in the 9 minutes he was on the pitch than that lazy $$$$$$$*r did all match.
We DO need a forward. No argument.

He scored the winner against Colchester. He's hardly been fit since.
And he isn't lazy. I bet you're the kind of "supporter" who hated Nathan Blake.

I don't understand where this "OMG Bo(o)throyd is so lazy" attitude has come from. If Bothroyd ran around like a madman like kenny miller then he wouldn't really do much other than knacker himself out. He does move, it's just that he seems to know when its best to move and when not too. No good just tearing around the place for the sake of it.

If he is, surely he is the same kind of "supporter" who doesn't rate Clarke?

I kind of do understand the whole Bothroyd is lazy thing, it was the same for Nathan Blake despite him being a valuable part of the team. Blake and Bothroyd are similar players in a way. Bothroyd really needs a good partner to play alongside in order to get the best out him. Someone with a bit of pace who can make intelligent runs beyond him and most of all a finisher, a fox in the box as Thierry Henry would call him.
We were spoilt when we had Bully and Mutchy and since then we haven't really had a front pairing that clicked for a decent amount of time.

Actually, I thought Nathan Blake was quality.
As for Clarke, if you look thru all my old posts relating to him I'd say I was one of his biggest advocates on here.
Did you see the game Saturday??
BILD,
DW had a pop at you by putting supporter in inverted commas. DW doesn't recognize that he can be just as bad with players he doesn't rate (ie Clarke) and really shouldn't try to take some sort of moral high ground.

With regards to Bothroyd being lazy, (I don't think he is, bytheway), I just think he's a similar (though not as good, yet) player to Sheringham, in that you don't see him tearing round the pitch like a Jack Russell on heat, nor have we ever done (before someone says he's too old to). As Said previously Bothroyd seems to pick and choose when to run, and when not to. Sometimes it is the right decision to hold your position, and I'm sure his time in Italy has taught him a lot in the art of movement off the ball.
Would really like to see him a have a really long run of games (talking 10-15) without him coming off, before I settle my full opinion of him. And I do believe that we have the right forwards at our club now, just a matter of finding out the best partnership from them.

why are we wasting our money on potter when we could be using the million pounds to get billy sharp. Why does mccarthy love this guy so much, he's not good enough.

We were linked with Andy Bishop from Bury yesterday in the NOTW.
I think it's almost certain that MM is scouring the lower leagues for a forward to bring in during the January window.
Indeed, that's what we need a 20 goal a season forward....trouble is we would sell him the next season....unable to resist the offer.
If lazy gets goals, I'll happily back Bothroyd. However, when you look at the end product, it just isn't good enough.

Presumably you're writing Johnson off as well then?
Cort and Davies out at the end of the season. Sharpe in.
Pick any 2 from Bothroyd, Johnson, Clarke, Sharpe. Sorted.

Bothroyd is more talented than Kenny Miller IMO (and I'm a massive Miller fan). Let's hope Mick can get the best out of him.
More talented than Miller? Well, talent-wise it's debatable as it's hard to measure, but Miller is head and shoulders better than Bothroyd in terms of goals scored and overall contribution to a game.
Will Bothroyd live up to his potential? Well, he hasn't yet in his career. Could it happen at Wolves? We'll have to wait and see.
But if i was offered Miller back in exchange for Bothroyd I'd bite their arm off.

Of course, it's a no brainer given their respective records and achievements so far. However, in terms of natural skill, ball control, composure, awareness and finishing, I think Bothroyd is more talented. Doesn't necessarily mean a great deal, as Mick said the other week, if other areas of his game were right, he'd still be at Arsenal.
Who was the more talented footballer - Mark Burke or Mark Rankine? And which one made the better career?
However, if we can get the best out of Jay, we've got a hell of a player on our hands. You get the feeling that this is the last chance saloon for him and he's got to make it here or otherwise slip into journeyman territory.

I'm with you about Cort. But why are you against Davies... when we can have him for 100K(only) from Verona? He is just 20 yrs old and i believe he can be better game by game.( MM didn't give him too many chances...did he?)

Bothroyd is more talented than Miller. As DW sez, Mick needs to get it all out of him and we will have some player imo.
Can't see Craig Davies staying personally. Mick will bring in a new striker in January and Davies will see himself in 6th place.
I would love to see Bothroyd fulfil his potential. He could be a fan favourite. At the moment the only thing preventing him from building up steam is his fondness for niggling injuries.

According to this we are closing in on alan o brien. If we get him on loan be prepared to see the quickest player you have ever seen. Skinned mark little and mark little outpaced david bellion against man utd reserves.
Would be sweet as the proverbial nut. We would then have O'Brien on the left, Gobern on the right, with Kightly or Ricketts to come in.
At last, proper wingers!
