Doing well at QPR isn't he? He was my first choice for us and still maintain he would have done an equally as good if not a better job as McCarthy is now. I actually think he is probably more tactically astute and would cope better managing at Premiership level. Still i hope Mick gets the chance to put right his previous failures at that level.

It's a fair shout. Also Ian Holloway is doing a pretty good job at Plymouth too.
Maybe though we have a manger who won't pander to us fickle bunch of $$$$$,do it his way and in the long run get it right.

he's had a few decent results, but he hasn't had chance to shell out £6m on Bosko Balaban yet.

Gregory was quite clever when he was after the Wolves job, He made it known that he wanted Bully as his assistant before that there wasn't many that would of liked to see him as manager at the Mol..

Yep lets judge Wenger on signing Jeffers or Ferguson on Djemba Djemba.

I have always rated Gregory and have said as much on here many times. Indeed, he made quite a few errors in the transfer market, some of them quite shocking like Balaban but Villa never failed to finish outside the top ten when he was in charge, plus he got them to a cup final. He wasn't my first choice for the Wolves job but he certainly seems to have steered QPR in the right direction- I thought they were an absolute cert for relegation.

I have never rated Gregory and think he was very fortunate to get the Villa job. Just the latest fad at the time. His record at Derby was appalling....55 games , 30 losses and 16 wins.

His overall record is 400 games as manager 144 wins (36%) 148 losses (37%) and 108 draws (27%). It's not outstanding and ranks him alongside many other managers with similar stats. Yes, QPR beat Cardiff last night but he's not that good a manager IMO.

Compare this with MM....416 games, 167 wins (40.1%), 137 losses (32.9%) and 112 draws (26.9%). Very similar IMO.

What result did he get in the other 4% ;)
