View Full Version : Crystal Palace
Sorry if its been mentioned already but there's quite an interesting article in today's Guardian about Palace.

Obviously, I'm mainly posting the link as a dig at those people who predicted Taylor would prove how wrong Jones and Hoddle were by playing Kennedy on the wing and storming the division (to quote: "Midfield is even more of a mess, with Kennedy disappointing in the centre"), because that's the kind of sad individual I am. But despite this, it is really quite interesting because I consider Palace a very similar club to us (millionaire owner, average crowds, some success in the past, charismatic manager quit this summer to manage in the Premiership etc etc) and I always like to read about clubs doing as badly as us.

:D genius.
Cheers for the article by the way - I too had often likened Palace to ourselves. I thought they'd be doing pretty well this year but it seems they are afflicted by the exact same mediocrity that we all know and love.
Looks like Kennedy is the scapegoat there as well. Never was the best player in the world but i thought he did alright for us last season until the boo boys got on his back. They are an average team like us and mirror us in many ways but unlike Wolves Palace fans haven't probably woken up to that fact yet.

We only woke up to it when the money dried up... and that "oh $$$$" feeling took a while to sink in... but I'm glad - I like having lower expectations and I like seeing developing talent coming through.
Average journeymen have no way to improve. Average youngsters with the right coach (enthusiasm a necessity) CAN improve and I think we can see this happening in front of our eyes at the Wolves.
Palace's current situation typifies the Wolves of the last 15 years (bar the premiership season) - I'm happy where we are now.

Totally agree. There are very good signs and perhaps it's not as exciting as before but when it's good it's better than when it was good before.

I disagree. When DJ bought in Kennedy and Newton and we were scoring for fun, that was the best it's been at Wolves for a long time.

Go's with out saying but i would still rather see Gobern, Henry improving instead of Kennedy and Newton under the pressure to live up to an over-hyped billing which they never did consistently. The money SJH spent should have guarenteed premiership football.
