View Full Version : Potter
good enough or not??... discuss
admittedly he is playing out of postition which may be hindering his game.. personnally i havent been overimpressed with him since he came and dont feel he is worth signing permanently if he is gonna cost more than 300k given our likely budget

this thread has got buried on page 4 or something, but there was quite a lot of good discussion of the issue there
I can't recall him showing anything that would warrant a transfer fee upwards of 500k which is what it would probably cost for him to move to Wolves. I'd rather have Hendrie on loan wavtapm.
I'd rather have Ronnie Corbett on the wing.
The bloke is slow, can't beat a player, can't pass, can't head and can't track back. After yesterday's horror show, you can also add can't take corners as well!

I think Potter seems to be indicative of the type of midfielder the British game is producing at the moment, good, steady, workmen like players who can do a number of jobs on the pitch, but don't seem to excel in any particular area. He'll make a good squad player, but thats about it. Hope he proves me wrong, but for now, I think he's had his chance, time to give someone else a go. Disappointed Gobern wasn't given as long a run in the team. Would like to see him get another crack of the whip, or Rosa if he's fit.

Not wanting to be pedantic, but exactly what job does he do?

Keeps possession, (without really penetrating), runs with the ball, (without really getting past anyone), plays the ball into the box (without really picking anyone out) tracks back and helps his full back out (without really making any telling tackles).
Which was my point, does many things, but not really enough to turn the game, industrious, but not inspirational.

Certainly wouldn't consider paying a transfer fee for him, like to see what he has to offer in a more central role, but better (on current displays) players ahead of him.

Thought he won his tackles well in the early stages yesterday, but all in all I've not been impressed ,plus his distribution (like a few others) was awful in the first half. We definitley need an out and out winger in his place, especially as you've got Ricketts on the other side who does a job but comes in side the majority of the time.

More relevant is what Big Mick thinks of him. He has said he would like him on a permanent basis but where and how would he play him. He aint likely to acquire the skills we need for the wide man so what is the point of persisting with him in this position. If Mick thinks he can do it in midfield then why not play him there and find out what he can do.

Square peg, round hole syndrome. No matter which manager, at what level, they all seem to succumb to it.
I can't really see a lot of difference between Potter and O'Connor who was not upto the task at the start of the season. As said before, he serves no real purpose. I would say a jack of all trades and a master of one but i don't really think he's that good at anything.
