Billy Sharp. Haven't seen him much but caught a glimpse last night ( admittedly only on Robbie Earle infested highihts ). Seemed to be giving the Villa defence a few problems and scored a good header from a corner. I appreciate the fact we cannot buy him now, but get the impression his value will only rise by the time January arrives. We have a few good strikers but you can never have enough attacking options ( IMO and Warnocks ) so could we do a deal now ( like Forest did with Tyson ) last year. Its obviously not our priority position to strengthen but he's going to get snapped up sooner rather than later.

Agreed, he does look very sharp (no pun intended). Good movement.
Yep - first time I'd seen him last night too and was iinterested to see what he was like after someone on here had sung his praises.
I was very impressed - good touch & made some intelligent runs. From what the commentators were saying though it seems a lot of clubs have their eye on him so we may have already missed the boat.

I thought this was going to be a thread about the merits of getting Dizzie Rascal into our squad after his music career has stalled...

Sharp did look impressive against Villa and I seem to recall the commentator saying he'd already scored 6 goals this season and that was before last nights goal.

I have been banging on about this lad for months, i have mate from Sunderland who follows scunthorpe he raves about Billy Sharpe - pace, skill, natural eye for goal, and now is starting to get the strenght as well.
I actually think a striker is a priority. You can look back to my posts around deadline day an i fore warned everyone we would lack goals. Johnson is a good prospect but is raw and will get jaded because of his age. Bothroyd has potential and skill but lacks a good pre-season. Clark, well he has the pysique but not sure about the self belief, and Cort can do it when he is fit.
We always lacked a fourth stiker of the Billy Sharpe type. I will be gutted if he moves to someone else in Jan. I want it on record that i beleive this guy over the coming years will develop into a top striker, since my mated pointed him out i have been following his development. I just hope MM is doing the same.
And i did watch the Villa Game in Sunderland - and he gave villa a good game.

He has been mentioned on this board many times before. I had hoped we could have got him this summer while his prospective price remained reasonable. By January it may be too late as the lower tier Prem teams come calling. As has been said you cannot have enough good young strikers and Clarke and Davies don't seem to be goalscorers whatever other talents they may have. Cort also could be off in January I reckon.A winger is the main priority in January but another striker like Sharp would be an intelligent move. But would MM have any money to spend???

There are transfer funds available, a bid was made for Eddie Lewis at the end of last month.
I'm always surprised by the perceptiveness of the posters on this forum.;)
We have created very few chances for our strikers, two of our strikers have done extremely well to score from limited chances and half chances. In fact, Bothroyd is scoring at a rate of around a goal every other game and he creates most of his own chances.
In the Barnsley game, the number of chances that fell to our strikers was less than the number that fell to mid-field players. Olofinjana missed a good chance and Ricketts missed three. Bothroyd and Johnson got one good chance each.
So here's the Mol Mix logic.
Our strikers are scoring at a half decent rate, despite being provided with a limited number of chances. Our mid-field have scored none, despite usually getting more chances than the strikers. Our defence have contributed no goals, despite numerous set-piece chances.
So we must need........another striker.
You guys crease me up laughing.
