Wolves Season Review 2007-2008 Banner War Chest [Archive] - Molineux Mix

View Full Version : War Chest

Now that Camara has ben sold we have a war chest of not less than £10 million ( Parachute £7 mill + £3 mill Camara), and perhaps a liitle more.

In the belief that we already have a squad more than capable of winning automatic promotion,I hope that we do not now sign any further players this season, unless they are really Premiership quality, which will give Hoddle a decent sum available to strengthen for next season.

I think we are still 1x central defender and 1xstriker short of a promotion squad - especially if we encounter our usual spate of injuries...

Apparently Tottenham are trying to get rid of the boy Keane and have offered him as a makeweight in order to get Jenas from Newcastle but Souness doesnt want him. I dont know if Keane would take a temporary step down into the Championship but if he was prepared to then if i was Moxey i'd break the bank for him.

How old is Keane?

St.Simon

Perhaps so Astral, but I tend to think that we are OK in both departments unless we get string of injuries.

Strikers: Miller, Cort, Ganea, Ndah, Clarke, Seol. = perm any two and they are not bad.

Central Defenders: Lescott, Craddock, Gyepes, Lowe, Clyde.

We also have the youngsters as additional back up, as well as utility players like Edwards who can play CB.

I would prefer that we keep our cash at this stage.

I think he's 25. Time for him to return to the nest.

St Simon - like I said this division and injuries seem to be hand in glove - but I do agree that if we sign anyone they should be with one eye on the Prem rather than stop gap players.

Papa - I would love to see Keano back here but firstly I can`t see him agreeing to dropping down a division at this stage in his career - and secondly he has already stated that he doesn`t believe in revisiting the past...

One of the beautys of this deal is that DJ will not be around to spend it!! What a happy day...I could even feel sanguineif by some mischance we lostto the Saints with all this happiness around the club!!

You're probably right but everybodys got a price and we probably need a defender/defensive midfielder first. Keane wont lose his place in the republic team by dropping down a league but i'd imagine he would cost megabucks, perhaps they could loan him for a season smileys/smiley36.gif

I agree very much with St Simon. I dont particularly feel we are short of strikers or central defenders. I think we need another central midfielder, but he would have to be a good 'un.

We are desperately short of competition/cover for Naylor, hopefully
somebody vocal. We also need a combative central midfielder in the
Savage/Ince/Bullard mould. Would Michael Brown fit the bill I wonder?
Idiakez maybe?

I guess we'll wait until January to see whether we need additions up
front although if we sell Miller or Cort we'll obviously need to
replace them straight away. Ganea's full recovery can't come soon
enough.

Blimey - Anybody would think Dave Jones did a Tommy Docherty on us? Good football and Promotion will be my memory of Davey Jones.

An 11pt debacle and relegation from the Prem will be mine...(we all have our blind spots.) smileys/smiley2.gif

We need another midfielder and another defender....

What happened to therumours with Gardiner at Spurs? Would he be a good defender that could come in?

I always see the glass as half full rather than half empty. All i will say is that the team that finished the Premiership season on a high was a 1000 times better than the one he inherited which was heading for League 2and for £25M that isn't bad going in three seasons considering he had to virtually rebuild the whole team.

Stop picking at them then!

I go for the balanced view... we experienced both good and bad during his time with us.

That we have 7 million of the parachute money available for transfers
is speculation , Hoddle stated that he had some money to spend but not
big bucks. I would guess from the fact that we bid for two players with
7 figure bids that the amount of money we have to spend on transfers
was about 2-3 million + the 3 million for the Camara deal.<!--

That sounds much more realistic to me too.

I dont understand how it can be taken for granted that the parachute money is for transfers, let alone the whole of the camara moneysmileys/smiley5.gif

Any ideas what we got for cooper?Edited by: JEVS WWFC 1877

WE NEED A BLOODY STRIKER

I think we will have about five to six million available now with the camrat money. I think we need three players to secure promotion. WE NEED A TOP STRIKER someone who can finish. We need a quality midfielder who can get goals from dead balls and we need cover at centre back.

Another thing to consider is the wage bill. People forever talk about transfer fees but the bulk of any clubs resourcesis spent on wage bills. I suspecta lot of that parachute money is going that way.

I also suspect that if Wolves don't go up this year we can expect a fewchanges next season, some of which we might not like very muchsmileys/smiley19.gif

Another two quality players added to the current squad IMHO will make Wolves a very strong outfit.

I feel the only difference between Wolves taking 3 points yesterday as opposed to just the one we got was that extra quality which may have seen us score.

Accepting nothings a gaurantee in life I'm sure that that extra little quality would have made a big difference.
