The fringe players maybe who are the ones these friendlies are for the benefit of? I guess at the moment he is a go between for the younger players between their youth and first team careers. How do you know he is 'useless'? From what I have read on here from people who have watched the lads train, he seems very enthusiastic and gets very involved and the players seem to like him. Have you ever seen him coach? do you have any coaching qualifications? Do you know what his role at the club is? or is this just another completely unjustified rant that has no basis on any known facts. Slip On Shoes 30-08-2006, 12:55 Enthusiasm isn't one of the highest criteria I would give to a coach, we can all be enthusiastic. Can't recall how many full time managers he has worked for now but can think of at least 3 to date. Wulfhere 30-08-2006, 13:00 Maybe no one has got rid of him because they actually believe he does a decent job? Can't recall how many full time managers he has worked for now but can think of at least 3 now. Two of them have managed at international level and both appear to think Connor can do his job. I thought he had been given a specific role to develop the younger professionals who are now too old to play in the academy. This seems to me to be an excellent idea and as several of them have performed with some distinction this year in the first team I suggest he is doing his job. Nashie 30-08-2006, 13:14 Enthusiasm isn't one of the highest criteria I would give to a coach, we can all be enthusiastic. Enthusiasm to do the job isn't something you'd be against though is it. I can't say I have watched them train but judging by what the players and fans have said in pre-season buildup, it seems he is respected by the squad. What basis have you got for saying how terrible he is? Have you got a coaching certificate or other credentials to help justify your statement? And irrespective of supporters views on those managers I'd say they know a tad more about the game and their staff than the likes of us so if they've been happy then TC can't be so bad after all? lon chaney jr 30-08-2006, 13:17 give it a go then..you might like it! How very dare you Essex! :) There is a great deal of expertise within the membership of this board, isn't there? Anyway, if he had been poor at his job, surely he would have lost his job at the same time as Gray, the opportunity was there for a clean sweep. EasternWolf 30-08-2006, 13:44 Players have spoken very highly of him at various times as being a first class coach. Our own, our very own, BertieWolf, who reported so eloquently from Spain in pre-season training, spoke of his surprise at how good TC was. The problem is that he became the but of some jokes and ridicule because he was required to have a clipboard in the Dave Jones era, presumably to write down things like "keep pluggin' away" when Jones was taking notes for halftime talks. I am beginning to think that Wolverhampton has moved close to Liverpool recently because they all think they are $$$$ing comedians as well and then end up believing their own jokes. Wonder Boyo 30-08-2006, 18:18 I went to see Wolves reserves play at Sunderland last season and was sitting just behind the Wolves bench. Have to say I was very impressed with Conner, very encouraging to the younger players who all seemed to like and respect him, also seemed to read the game very well when shouting to players about their roles, positioning and general tactics. In fact one of the Sunderland crowd in the stand remarked how they wished he was on their coaching staff. Maybe he's been here so long and never been shown the door by a succession of managers because he's actually very good at his job. I'm sure there is still a role for him to play with the squad members who aren't regularly involved with the first team and also as a help to the younger players making the transition from the youth team to the professional squad |
