people say that ours are bad.
today there were only 20 more people at the blackburn game than at molineux yesterday
and at wigan yesterday there was only 14000 that bothered to turn up!

23,000 at Charlton
18,000 at Fulham
40,000 at Man City (against Arsenal)
35,000 at Villa when optimism is at an all-time high
23,000 at Sheff Wed (against Leeds)
16,000 at Palace
19,000 at Leicester
20,000 at Southampton
11,000 at Stoke
10,000 at QPR
Similar stories for other teams who were at home last week, everyone is seeing their crowds falling. In particular it sees that less away fans are hitting a lot of clubs hard, it's one thing to watch your own team at home, but travelling all over is bloody expensive these days. Something will have to give sooner or later.
58,078 at Celtic.
Looks like our Lee was not so daft after all.:)

Couldn't believe the blackburn attendance. i know its bank hol and on tv, but 20,000 ffs? The warning signs are there. Beware the bursting "rip off the fans" bubble.

Attendances are falling all across the country, I can only think of Swansea in who have improved in the last few seasons and thats due to having a new stadium.
The bubble is bursting and we are heading towards the early 90's at the moment unless ticket prices are cut across the country. Ive heard its £16 to stand and watch Stafford at Conference level FFS.

£8 if you sneak in as a child :D
on a serious note though. with me being 17 nearly 18, at most away games i would have to pay adult prices. Because i simply can't afford it when you take into account travel costs aswell i sneak in for the childs ticket, my annoyance at this is partly the reason why i joined the fans parliament, to try and get our ticket structure sorted.not much joy yet though. i feel realy sorry for people who are aged between 17 and 60 because of the prices you have to pay! im gonna hate it when i can't pass for a 16 yr old anymor :(

It used to cost £6 to watch Maidstone United in the Kent County League 5 years ago, god knows what it is now.

This was talked about earlier and I fully agree with your comments WW re the bubble bursting.
Years ago a day out at the football with petrol and food etc would not be that rediculously expensive, nowadays with fuel costs it has become a very expensive passtime.

Not quite that much, it's only £12.

A work colleague has a season ticket at Ashburton Grove as he likes to call it, can't remember the exact amount but is was over £1200.
Arsenal are a rip-off, £46 is the cheapest ticket at their Category A fixtures. If they keep those prices up, then they'll probably be struggling to fill the new ground after this season

I've heard rumour some Arsenal fans are already annoyed with the club and the allocation of ST's.
Apparently a large number of seats that were to be for ST holders, baring in mind Arsenal have a large waiting list, have now gone towards the old corporate sponsors and some are still nable to get a ticket.
Seeing as the capacity has gone up well over 20000 I find this a a little hard to believe but with money being all important you never know.

With the attendance levels falling across the board does this now signal the days of huge salaries and transfers coming to an end, or will market forces (to coin a very capitalist phrase) show a small number of extremely rich clubs dictating the league to the FA? Well, they already do to some extent, but at least it's not overtly.
Somehow I think we are in for some interesting developments regarding the Premier League, with UEFA caving in to the long-held objective of some clubs having a regular European league for example. I do think that Sky's sponsorship is reaching a plateau though, and from here the sport will begin to suffer some nasty financial shocks. Personally I would not be surprised to see a Premier club call in the receivers with the next couple of seasons, such is the pressure on them. As for the rest of the clubs playing pro football, if they can't get their houses in order damn quick, heaven help them.

I remember a very similar discussion this time last year, attendances eventually picked up and if you look at the final figures for last season, they were the same or better than the previous year. I agree that ticketing prices are too high, but then I couldn't afford to go to the opera every week, I don't whinge about it or offer less than half the price and hope they'll accept it.

Sunderland currently have the highest average attendance at 25523 in a stadium of over 48k capacity. That's about 52% utilisation. Our average attendance is 18662 giving a utilisation of about 65%.
DW as for going to the opera, you could go every week if you wanted to. It is affordable if you don't want to go to Covent Garden and the like to watch it

The only danger with that is yet more clubs going into administration. I for one would hate to see any clubs die - football doesn't need that.

I'll thank your wife not to interrupt you halfway through a sentence.
What you proposed was one of the most ridiculous, unworkable ideas I've ever seen. It's like me ordering a balti pie at half time and when they ask for £2.40, I'll say "£1.70, take it or leave it". I don't think I'd get that far.

Come on Deutsch, you have said that a price is to high but still seem prepared to pay it. If I ordered a pie at said price that means I am prepared to pay it, I did not order a ST at said price they sent me a begging letter, I responded with the same corporate claptrap market forces $$$$$$$ for which they could either accept or refuse. They chose the latter of which I have no problem because they do not want to upset you people who have paid a price above the odds (as you agree) for their product.
Come on Deutsch help to burst the bubble and bring football back to the ordinary low paid supporter who at the moment cannot afford to attend and watch the team they love, specially if they want to bring their children. The next generation of supporters is slowly being lost for short term gain.

But what would you like me, or anyone else on this forum, to do? I've already said that I think ticket prices are too high, but that goes for all football clubs, not just us. There are many clubs in this division that don't offer incentives such as the Early Bird, haven't invested in their squads to any great extent for years, put prices up despite continued mediocrity and STILL the fans come through the gate. I paid £469 for each of my last two season tickets - far too much for Championship football IMO. However, I don't see prices going much (if any) higher, it just can't be justified. Once the club has stabilised a bit and can survive on 20,000 fans @ the current prices, maybe they'll change their stance and lower the prices to attract 24-25,000 each week.

You say fans are STILL coming through the gates, but the numbers are dwindling, the facts are there. Slowly supporters are waking up to ther fact that they are being fleeced. The choice is yours, stop paying or await the day when you will be sharing a 28000 seater stadium with a well below capacity crowd plus no atmosphere.

No, the facts aren't there. Do a search of this forum with the keyword "attendance", and you'll find the exact same argument from 12 months ago. Attendances are down, prices are too high, it's not value for money. And yet the final figures for last season were equal or better than previous years.
In Wolves' specific case, we've suffered from a season of mostly mind-numbing football which undoubtedly turned a lot of fans away plus the loss of a few thousand part timers who are only interested if we're spending millions of pounds or are top of the league. They'll never be changed, regardless of price. They wouldn't pay £10 a game to watch us finish 18th in the Championship.

Although our 'official' attendance was 19K Saturday, it would be interesting to know how many people actually came in through the turnstiles, 'cos from where I was sat it looked barely 17K to me.

You might, thousands of others wouldn't.
I'd love too, the cheaper the better.
Went to the speedway last night and had a very good time. At £200 a season ticket for 28ish meetings, it offers a very good alternative to the football, if prices continue to rise.
I couldn't afford to go to the opera every week, I don't whinge about it or offer less than half the price and hope they'll accept it.
Opera at the royal opera house is about £11 a ticket for seats, if you want to stand it's a fiver. Football is really overpriced compared to other entertainment, and you only get a really entertaining game once every four or so matches.

It's difficult to understand why clubs need to charge so much throughout all levels of the game in England. For example, last Saturday night I went to watch Valencai vs Real Betis. It cost me £14 to get in.
