View Full Version : Finkler?
Does anybody have any feedback regarding the situation with Gee Finkler? IMO today's friendly would have been a good opportunity for him to get a run out
he wasn't a McCarthy signing, he was told of his quality when he came in so was happy for the deal we had struck to go ahead. I very much doubt we'll see our Brazilian friend before xmas and by then he might be well and truely missing the warmer climates of home and have asked to go back!

I'm with Kenny. I don't think this is an issue of MM not rating him as a player. I think he wants Gui to get used to English football, get used to playing and training with the squad, learn English, and generally adjust. Remember, he is just a kid.

Good idea signing one for the future, while our established stars play in the first team.

I'm sure when the time is right MM will play Finkler, I hope so anyway.

I'd like to see Finkler get a chance in a home start. Our midfield for the 2nd half on Friday consisted of 3 DM's and a left back.
At the mo i can't see him getting much of a look in, which would be a shame imv.
Hopefully i'll be wrong.

You don't need to speak English to play well, a player looks for moves even without communication. In a relatively full stadium, I wonder how much you actually hear anyway.

Well, I don't think we need to worry about having a relatively full stadium at any point soon.

If English is a pre-req, I wonder what would become of Chelski. Perhaps Terry, Lamps and Cole are perhaps fluent in Spanish / Portugese/ French/ Ukranian. :)

I agree with what you're saying AW - however, i just thought that a game like this where there is no pressure and crowd expectations would be a good opportunity to experience the english game. as a footballer i would expect him to want to play as much football as possible to help him settle..

As soon as he signed I had a suspicion that would happen. Its looking increasingly likely that Finkler will make a quiet exit at the end of his year here.

I tend to agree with this analysis. Like Frankowski, Finkler's game doesn't seem to be based around pace and work-rate. These are the two things that MM appears to be con centrating on at the moment.
I had the same thought the day he signed, when MM was quoted as saying something like 'the staff here have told me hes a good player. I've seen him today and he looks O.K.' Not exactly an overwhelming endorsement.

Exactly. The friendly would have been an ideal game to blood him in, instead McCarthy chose to play more triallists instead.

He was supposed to put the trialists on the bench?
"Ooohhh", says Mick, "You doooo look nice sitting there Jemal. Is it nice and comfy for you, mmmmm?"
Give me bloody strength.

From what I've seen of him he has got undoubted talent but he looks lightweight, and our midfield already looks to lightweight so far this season without him in so I certainly don't see him as an answer unless he decides to go for one up front and Finkler just behind.

Do you not think Mick McCarthy and his coaching staff have more insight as to who and who doesn’t deserve to play? If the players are good enough they will start, its not as if we in a position to ignore talent. If the player produces on the training ground, he will get a chance. Some rankophile on here criticised McCarthy for not playing Frankowski yesterday despite the fact he is away with the Poland squad!!
