I have a similar view to Edwards as to Naylor. Their level is mid-CCC (which is the average of expectation this season for us, it seems), and they would have to over-achieve to be in a team to win promotion.

I think he is a better CH than RB, though.

He's got one year left and signed a two year extension

$$$$ing hell, I know we have a depleted squad but this isn't good news. The man is a liability and I'm far from confident when he's in the line up.

The first of the 6 'new' players we need..........Ince to be the second? Not much changes.

Decent back-up/utility man to have in the squad. Lets see who comes in to keep him warming the bench

I like Edwards - I think he tries hard in a wolves shirt and is much more tenacious and solid than Naylor. He's not had many full seasons and I think he can really improve and mature into a decent centre-half. I remember Dave Kitson trying to peel out onto the flank and pick on him, but he didn't win a thing in the air and Edwards really stood up the physical examination.

If Breen and Edwards started the first match at centre half I wouldn't be too unhappy.

N.B Mainly because I've given up hope of us ever having a really quick defender.

He's useless although he did improve last season (but bearing in mind his performances the season before it was practically impossible for him not to). As mentioned above seems a better CB than RB but that's not saying much, I wouldn't want him as any more than a squad player if we could get the right players in now.

As far as I'm concerned I'm willing to put aside any previous opinions I've formed of any of our players with the hope that MM can bring out the best in them. I think he's 'that type' of coach.

That's fair enough- I dare say I will be doing the same as well. But I can't see myself putting aside my opinions on someone like Leon Clarke- it's up to him to prove he's changed. But people like Edwards and Olifijana deserve the chance to show that they are sound enough players.

Agreed. A sound comment in the sea of negativity.

I think Edwards has the potential to be our best defender. Lescott has gone it's time for him to step up and that goes for the rest of our defence. I think the defence looked to J-Lo too much to cover for them or take command, now they have to look to themselves (Carp I sound like Mr Miyagi).

Edwards isn't a bad defender IMHO and McCarthy could be the very manager to improve him. He offers some vesatility and seems better at CH.

it seems like edwards has become new public enemy number 1 in naylors absence this pre-season.
i think he is ok at this level and is a better defender than craddock.
at least he doesnt hide away from his mistakes.
pleased with this news on the whole

I agree with you. He still has the potential to improve, with the right coaching. You get one lot of posters bleating on about signing young players with potential and then you get others who say that he is rubbish as soon as we extend his contract. On the other hand, it was a complete mystery to me why Craddock was given a contract extension last season.

I don't think there's any danger of that, but I wouldn't have minded getting into the Wolves Parliament to ask the question. I've nothing personal against Craddock, but he is the wrong age to be getting an extended deal. Why couldn't it wait to the end of the season like Ince, Cameron and Kennedy? It's not like we were fighting other clubs off.

I believe Edwards is decent at this level and due to the lack of numbers we need someone who is classed as a "utility player"....Personally think he is a better centre half but this could have something to do with playing with Lescott?? Be interesting to see how he performs with either Craddock, Breen or Little??

I like Edwards. Admittedly he is a limited player, but gives his all, tackles very well, and is pretty decent at centre half.

Very few people from emerged from last season with enhanced reputations. As far as I'm concerned we are starting with a clean slate and it's what they do from now on that counts. Frankly I worry about scoring more than conceding . Isn't there a pun in there somewhere?

Taffywolf

Give the lad a break, He gives his all every week, He is not the quickest of players by a long way but as a centreback I think he'll do a good job. I would probably pick him before Craddock..
The season hasn't started yet and players are getting slated. This is a new era for Wolves and the fans need to start backing players 110% even if they are not their favourites. Sure we all have our own opinions and are free to voice them on here, But I hope that this doesn't get taken into the 1st game of the season..

If our back 5 starting the season was Murray, McNamara, Edwards, Breen and Clapham I wouldn't be too unhappy. As long as we had some young(ish) talent waiting in the wings.

Murray makes such a difference because he plays on the edge of his box and sweeps up, narrowing the gap behind his defence like Reina for Liverpool (who's defence isn't the quickest).

I remember one specific goal against us last year, when someone just hoofed it upfront from their own half, and the striker ran onto it (without touching the ball before he got inside the area) and scored by the peanlty spot without Postma coming out and clearing up.

He is still young enough to improve and already has Welsh international caps. Not brilliant but capable of developing into a very useful squad player and perhaps even holding down a CB position until Gyepes gets back. Lay off him.

I think he can be one of the best defender in this league with the right coaching. He's solid and consistant, versatile and always gives 100%. He's been injured in matches and refused to come off which impresses me even more. I even remember one of the best crosses ive ever seen in my life against Crewe (away last season) where he whipped it across the edge of the area and Cort scored from it. Im not just saying this either cos I am good friends with his brother.

He is better than Clyde and Lowe. Average full-back but he is good as a CB for championship.

I simply don't understand how you can say that. It's one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard

To call him solid is a joke. It's true that he's consistent - unfortunately he's consistently poor. I agree that he gives 100%

Refusing to come off when your injured is bad enough, but staying on when you are such a limited player - needing to give 100% just to be adequate - is a crime, and does the team no favours at all.

As for his good cross against Crewe, what about the 488 times where he either didn't get forward at all, or did then chickened out, turned 180 degrees, and played a hospital ball back to Lescott or Gypes?

In my opionion, the repeated perseverence with Edwards (especially at RB) is one of the main reasons we frittered away the chance to get back to the PL before the money ran out.

Oh! What I would have given to have seen a 37 year old Denis Irwin at RB for the last two seasons....

Since we're talking about ludicrous statments let's give the above a go. We've been so poor since relegation that I don't want to pin the blame on any one man, but if I was I can't think of many people further down the list than Edwards.

You've got Craddock, who well why bother going into it, suffice to say he's diabloical. Naylor who spends every game either booting the ball into the crowd and then chasing the mediocre right winger who got the wrong side of him...again. Kennedy, Cameron, Ince, well we've got one of the biggest pitches in the league so a midfield who can't run is a superb idea.

And how many chances have we needed to score a goal since relegation? Statisically I think we created as many chances as any other team, but couldn't seem to score 2 goals in any one game.

This is without touching on the other million pound signings we've has around the club.

And you want to pin it on a 200k, youngster who, whilst a bit limited has played where he's been asked to and given his all.

i think we'll have to agree to disagree. I think Edwards has been shocking.

Being young and costing only £200k is no excuse as far as I'm concerned.

Hopefully. Or perhaps we'll buy someone else and our Rob can do the job he is best suited for - sit on the bench ;)
