Although they have been knocked out I have to say Nedved for me. Out of retirement and the man runs round like a spring lamb. Great player.

Riquelme.

Outstanding player. Plays for Villarreal FFS and Barca let him go there, they must be kicking themselves.

Nedved (and Rosicky) was absolutely awful in the Ghana game. Nedved looked disinterested and played a load of unintelligent balls. But in the USA and especially the Italy game he was superb.

Not sure about the best, but I think Essien has been superb.

Riquelme is amazing!

95% successful pass rate in his first 2 games - awesome player!

Riquelme and Essien have both been absolutely superb. For different reasons and in different styles they have both run midfield for their teams. Essien edges it slightly for me! I've shocked myself with that statement.

Kaka for me, in a pretty average Brazil team.

Wiothout any doubt Aaron Lennon

One good goal and some mediocre performances. You are having a laugh. He has not controlled games in the way that Riquelme and Essien have, nowhere near.

Bearing in mind I've only seen highlights of Argentina so far, I'd have to go with Essien. Although he looked fairly ordinary against the Italians in the first match, he has looked superb since then.

By the way, how do you pronounce Nedved? I've heard various attempts this last couple of weeks, with the same commentators changing pronounciation several times a match. Is it

Nedved
Niedved
Nedvied

Riquelme.

Outstanding player. Plays for Villarreal FFS and Barca let him go there, they must be kicking themselves.

Riquelme was crap at Barcelona very much like Saviola was .... it has taken him another 2 loans and three clubs to mature as a player in Spain and clubs like Barca do not wait they go out and sign Guily, Deco, Ronaldino win back to back titles and the European cup ..... kicking themselves? yeah, bet they are. Of all the players lost from that crop Fabregas is missed more than Riquelma. Pique, Gerrrd and Saviola who have all gone onto some success elsewhere where as Valdes stays !!! staggering some of the ironys in football

Best player? Gerrard when on the pitch - two goals from a player in a failing side and playing out of position ..... god knows what he would do if used right.

Xavi Alonso is a great player IMO. I also like Mascherano.

According to Dean Sturridge and Colin Cameron ( who wasn’t yet leathered ), we were after Riquelme ( on loan ) when we got promotion.

That Gatuso fella. Has a bit of urgency about him which is strange for an EyeThai think he'd do ok in the Prem. Essiens been good though, though it all might go to $$$$ for them with him being suspended next match.

Apparently in Czech Republic they pronounce him Nedvied.

I missed the Czech V USA i was flying, but in the other 2 games he has been amazing, even the ghana game.

Riqulme has been good, but they were tested only by Holland and he did not have a good game then, in the Serbia game he was awesome but Serbia were awful.

I would not disagree with Nedved as the best individual yet.

Appiah has impressed me.

i suppose the best players imo are the ones who really seem to want it.

Van Persie though i hate him has shown some great desire - though perhaps a little over-eager at times giving away silly fouls.

Didier Drogba very much impressed me for the Ivory Coast..why dont we see that for Chelsea??

And Gattuso...im sure motty said they call him The Snarl..may have misheard - was a little drunk..but i see where they are coming from! great determination and a real desire to win.

Why should he lower himself?

Why should he lower himself?

he'll be in Serie b next season, along with Juve and Fiorentina

He has no problem with lowering himself - he played for Rangers didn't he?

Did you see him celebrating the 2nd goal? He ran to Lippi and grabbed him by the face! Lippi didn't look amused but it was hilarious! :D

Lippi was not happy at all! Strange way to celebrate a goal. Maybe Rooney will do it to Sven against Ecuador but hopefully doesn't let go.

Pirlo's seemed to have really bad games whenever I've watched him in the champions league but this WC he's been one of the ones to really stand out for me - a class act.

I liked Camronesi as well, thought he had a good game. The Italians are certainly looking good- not sure about the strikers though.

Lupo Italiano

Regarding our strikers, that was Inzaghi's first appearance yesterday and he managed a goal. Iaquinta and Gilardino have both notched one too.

I'm hoping (and expecting) Luca Toni back in the next game and think he is ready to catch fire, he is quality.

Paolo Rossi hadn't scored at this stage in 1982 and was playing like a drunken carthorse!

brummywolf
23-06-2006, 15:04
Inzaghi wasn't very good though was he? Gilardino has looked OK, haven't seen enough of Iaquinta. Bit harsh to drop Toni IMO I thought he looked good in the first two games albeit a little unlucky. Totti on the other hand...

Lupo Italiano
23-06-2006, 15:09
No Inzaghi missed a couple of sitters, that header on an open goal was shocking.

I've never been a fan of Inzaghi but I loved him (not in that way!) when he scored the 2nd yesterday.

Toni is tops, he seems to be a genuine all round decent guy as well as a superb striker, he has none of Christian Vieri's arrogance, stropiness or over-inflated self opinion.

Totti is still struggling back to fitness, he has been out for months with a broken leg. The tricky thing is, he is tiring in games but they want to give him as much time on the pitch as possible to rebuild his sharpness.

Totti has today acknowledged he had a couple of poor efforts on goal but says he was suffering from cramp which contributed to the problem.

Essien. He's had more effect on Ghana than Riquleme has on Argentina.
He's made Ghana look like a good side when they're pretty average.

I thought Shevchenko looked real quality when tripping himself up to win a penalty this afternoon. He's gonna find himself a real soul mate in Drogba at Chelsea I reckon.

Nedved--over rated, over the hill, pretty much like inzagi, totti an del perio. Add to that the lazy blob for brazil, an Becham. Time to acknowledge younger talent not living on reputation like Torres, Lennon, Essien.

Gyan for Ghana is the player for me so far. 19 years old i think, quick, powerful, skillful, plays for modena....although not for much longer i would have thought!
