England Game?

Surprised no one has a thread on it. Good display by the England team with Crouchino showing his critics he IS a good player. Owen still needs some games under his belt. Midfield played well with Lampard having a better game and showing he especially prefers a 4-4-2 formation. Defense solid although sometimes I do wonder about Ferdinand's concentration some times. Carrick played well holding the ball up and keeping possession for England and will defiantly be an option for Sven in games where he wants to hold onto a lead late in a game but his passing is poor and that will get punished in the World Cup. Like I said all in all a good performance and one that should gives us some confidence for next weekend.

Worries are: the amount of injuries were picking up although I think we have a strong enough team to get us through the group stages without some of the key players who are carrying knocks. Penalties, God help us if it goes to them in the knock out stages. We couldn't hit a goal from the spot if the goal was made twice as big.

Very happy with Crouch- for me he has cemented his place against Paraguay, let's hope we see more of the robot!

lets not get too over excited though. Jamaica are not a very good side and there will be harder tests come the world cup. It is a good confidence booster (apart form penalties) and I think Sven has got his 1st 11 against Paraguay

Crouch has impressed me in the 3 games, held the ball up when he needed to, brought players into the game and proved he can finish, his 3rd goal to day was excellent. Hope he can continue his good form in Germany.

good overall performance today in effectively a training game ( although T&T may well prove to be similar level of opposition)

Positives:

Crouch- proving his worth- 7 caps 5 goals ( should have been 6)- nothing more needs to be said

Carragher- thought he was excellent at RB today and tbh id be tempted to play him instead of neville

Gerrard/Lampard- yes it was only jamiaca but they played today as a partnership for the first time in the way we wanted them to- ie one holds whilst other attacks- Potentially the difference in us going all the way

Lennon looked a threat when he came on and may well do the business if called upon

Sven- was nice to see him get a good reception after the game in his last game on english soil


Negatives

The few knocks to tery,a.cole, beckham

Owen- Looks nowhere near match fit or sharp IMO- needs to learn how to play closer to crouch


other than that a great booster ahead of next week, whatever 11 is picked will do a job IMO, we really do have a great squad

this was the most dissapointing thing for me, when he got the ball he checked back and laid the ball off to someone 3 inches away, admittedly he didnt have long on the field but i was waiting for his attacking dribbling and it never came.

Lennon was particularly poor for whatever reason he seemed to lack confidence. He was laying the ball back when he should have looked for men further forward. From hero to almost zero, Cameron-like in his approach to the game very odd considering his last game against better opposition.

Crouch I thought had something about him and has been consistent in all the games he has played, awful penalty miss though. I do not consider him a penalty taker.

Like to see a more aggressive Gerrard who is a world class performer, yet IMHO he is being asked to become a foil for Lampard and vice-versa he should have had at least 2-3 zingers by now and I cannot recall any of his shots from outside the area getting through on goal.

I was at the match in the north stand by Lennon and agree with that. I was looking forward to seeing him but was disappointed with his performance.

I was also at the match in the North Stand and was disappointed by Lennon and Carragher. The one time Carragher got forward a la Neville we score - he didn't do it enough though.

Carragher isn't as good as Neville at RB.

Agreed, Neville and Beckham know each others game inside out. Carragher will be an excellent squad player throughout this World Cup.
