I was debating about when or if to post this, as we talked long long ago and I don't know how excited people would be for a 30-year old foreigner to attend his first Wolves match, but, here we are anyway.

I was not planning on being able to afford to fly wife and myself out for our planned April Wolves trip, and I guess she felt bad for me because she bought me a plane ticket for just myself anyway.

Or maybe she just wants me out of the house for a week.

No complaints from me, however! It was dirt cheap to fly into Manchester, so I'll be getting in Thursday March 30 and probably taking a train to Wolverhampton. I might just stay within walking distance of Molineux because I will only be there for a few days and will be in no condition for a long trip after the matches on April 1 and April 4.

I have a few days either side in case any matches get moved, and I plan on watching as much football and drinking as many local brews as one can.

I do know a few of you owe me a drink at the Stile. I'll be buying a round or two for everyone as well :D

So now that it's actually becoming a reality, I'm open to any suggestions or tips on what to do and how to get around. I have not been to England before, so let me know how to not make a typical jerk of myself.

if anyone has any connections at the club you have to let them know this. As this bloke deserves a signed shirt and a tour of the stadium at least.

Also I would recommend a trip to the training ground if training is on and open to the public when you're here.

Book a stadium tour. I did it with my family a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. You should jump on a train and go to Birmingham (very close) and maybe even London which is only an hour and twenty minutes away. The Black Country Museum is a good bet. You go back in time , and, there is a pub there as well. Wolverhampton people are very friendly. You will get into conversation easily in the pubs. You appear to like your ale, I'm sure local experts will advise you where to go for the best pints. Saturday will be wild for the game with cardiff. Good crowd, and great atmosphere pre match in the pubs. The Stile is probably a must as you will meet many from on the Mix. Look out for some music in the evenings. Again! The locals will put you straight. Enjoy your experience. Wolverhampton is real. No pretence. You should have a ball. Don't worry too much about knocking a few back. Just look after yourself. Wolvo is a drinking town.

Manchester to Wolvo by train is straightforward and all you'll need to get around the town when you arrive are your legs. You won't need a lot of money with the exchange rate being what it is but you might need a dictionary and language lessons to understand a good percentage of the locals.
I hope you have a great trip and Wolves present you with a win.
P.S. Write (not email) to the club to let them know you're coming and that it's your first trip and ask them for advice and they might, just might, offer you some sort of treat/deal...and tell them that you'd like to see the museum and that you've heard that there are other things on display on the foyer and ask if you could be admitted to see them.

Sure Pumpking could arrange something special, including waving a flag!!:D

I guess I can introduce him to the Stile and a pint or two of Sunbeam and/or Staropramen.

Good man. You are very welcome and I hope you have a great trip

Make sure you contact the club well in advance - they are brilliant people and will make sure you are warmly welcomed

Otherwise in most wolves pubs you can just walk in and folk will start chatting. Bit different to down here in London!

I'd also suggest getting out into Shropshire which is beautiful eg Ludlow, Shrewsbury - but might not be your bag

Superb stuff. Thank you for the responses so far!

I bought my wife a Keurig for her classroom so she can enjoy coffee all day. I did not expect her to out-gift me like this.

I'm happy to prowl around Wolverhampton and stake out the place as I'm sure it will become a yearly pilgrimage for the family once we get the kids out of daycare.

I was planning on taking the train around. I figure I must at least walk around London for an afternoon if I'm flying all the way over. I'll definitely be writing the club as well---that is splendid advice.

PumpKing has already talked with me a bit in the past. He is an outstanding top class gentleman.

And who could say no to an evening in North Wales? I've got the time. I'll keep you informed.

Open mic night in the Stile could be an adventure as well. I love a good drinking town. It's always been a match made in heaven. Sometimes it's like Wolves found me, not the other way around :D

Love my city wouldnt rather by anywhere else but someone coming for a holiday? Lol. Stay in Brum. Go for separate nights out in both Wolves and Brum whilst you are here. Get yourself out to Shrews & Beyond for a day and a day in Brum or London. And obviously 2 games in Wolves with sessions beforehand.

    Thats what i'd do anyway!

USA, it may be worth picking Ericks brains, he is from your side of the pond and had an extended stay in England and took in a good few matches.. He was a very lucky mascot as I think he saw loads of our wins in the league one season.
Not sure what I am up to around then, but will be happy to meet for a brew pre match if I am about.

Hi USA, special deals available at The Novotel in Wolvo, if you mention that you are a Wolves Supporter, over for the home games at Molineux, during your stay.

I always stay there when travelling up for games. Friendly staff, good accommodation, good food and beer.

Dont do all the "usual" mistakes.. Hotel in Wolvo is a must. Dont book yourself every hour of the trip. There are lots of things to do 24 hours a day when first visit, but only if you give time in Wolvo for it.

As earlier mentioned a journey to the Black Country museum is a good call.

Visiting West Bron is a good idea, that way you'll be as pleased as punch you chose us over them!

The Wolves museum is good too, should kill a. Hour or 2, and I found it very interesting as in boring like that

I'd agree, stay in Birmingham and travel into Wolverhampton. The city is my home (despite not living there for many moons) and it's great but Birmingham does offer a lot more and the distance between the two is so small that it makes sense to come across to Wolverhampton rather than stay.

Enjoy the trip though, it's a fun place and I don't think anything can touch the town on a match day, some great watering hole before and after the match, depending on what you like to do, I go the 'LADS' route of the likes of Billy Wright/Yates/Cuban etc etc but there is some belting pubs out there. Can't say you've experience life till you come stumbling out the Giffard at 4 in the morning.

Like Stefan says, I love Wolverhamtpon, but it's not for the faint hearted. I'd stop in Birmingham. Trains to Wolves every 15 minutes and only takes 15-20 minutes.

Hi LW, % Reductions on room price and food and drink. Deal directly with them, phone and speak to them on line, mentioning that you are a Wolves Supporter and understand that there are special reductions available for supporters, staying overnight for a match.

I only discovered this a couple of years ago, when casually mentioning to the receptionist, as I was making a reservation over the phone, the fact that I was a supporter, travelling up from Waterlooville for a week-end game.

If you go to London have a tour around Wembley, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal all fantastic grounds to look at have a walk along embankment get one of those expensive buses or a boat ride up the river Thames there's a ice bar in London also harrods is OK to walk round you can pick up your stone island scarf from there.. Lol other than that there's a couple of museums but that's not quite soccer

The poor chap has only got a week and already his itinerary is full with all the things he needs to do in the Wolvo area.
Personally, as it's his first trip I'd suggest he stays in Wolvo where he can meet up with different folk in the evenings going to different pubs and take a couple of trips or so to Birmingham and elsewhere during the daytime. It would be the cheapest and friendliest option imo.
He seems to want to see London so he could do a day trip there (2 hours on the train to Euston) but he won't see much of it in a day if it's the shops he wants to go to.

Anyhow, USA Wolf, if you do want to do the London trip, make sure book well in advance (about a month or more) as the tickets cost twice the amount if you buy on the day or even close to the day of travel.

Message me if you want info about London as I live there.

Problem is though you can probably meet a few people/us for beers around Wolves on each night etc if you're stuck in B'Ham then you're on your todd.

Train in & out can get very pricey, might be better off renting a car & getting about the local area & beyond.
