Confirmed in Morocco's 23 man squad
Good luck to him. Hope he doesn't pick up an injury.
Hopefully he has a blinder and comes back fighting for his place
Yet our manager does not think he merits a place in our starting line-up!
Not enough ''Championship experience'' maybe?
Good luck to him. Look forward to seeing him back fighting for a first team place in the near future.
We had a similar scenario with Guedioura if memory serves me right
How silly would Lambert have looked if he hadn't made the squad! Hope he does well and Morocco are soon out.
Not everyone can play in the first team.
Is this tournament on TV?! I know ITV4 used to show matches!
Saiss has disappointed me when I've seen him. Appears to be running in treacle.
Perhaps I'm being unfair?
Probably on somewhere but it's terrible, I generally don't mind any sport but I'd rather watch ice hockey than this thing.
Current FIFA rankings: Morocco 57, England 13.
I have the same feeling, he looks too slow and laborious. I wish him well and really do hope he proves me wrong but for me playing in a Morocco team at the African Cup of Nations means naff all
Wasnt Guedioura playing in an Algerian side ranked about 13-14th in the world in a World Cup?
Rate the lad. But for now I'm happy with Lambert not starting him. Shame he's not made the bench much, but hope he goes out to Africa and has a blinder and comes back full of confidence for a first team push.
Go Morocco! And maybe Mali because well Sako...maybe. Lol
Probably on Eurosport 5 or maybe Quest have won the rights.
Protected the back four very well initially.
Man of the match IMO in our win over Newcastle.
Then had a couple of hit and miss games (as did most of the side) when it all went belly up with Zengas shambolic last few weeks and Edwards poor couple of games in charge.
Dropped during the 'back to british' cull when Lambert came in.
We've spent 4m on him, he's a highly rated international and surely deserves a run of games to show what he can do. Hopefully will be reintroduced after AFCON and wish him well out there.
Good luck to him
Not at all, too defensive minded , always seems to kill the tempo of any possession . Wouldn;t be surprised if he's sold in the summer
Get him back after. Put him at Centre back where he plays for his country. At least we will then have one defender that can control a football and distribute it properly.
Agree with last comment. His control and distribution are on another level to the rest of our team. Completely ran the game against Villa. Protects the back 4 really well. A little inconsistent but in and out the team and he's probably started around 10 games in the championship and people seem to have given up on him. This is a quality player who we should be doing everything we can to help adapt and settle. And then building a midfield around. Him and Price lying deep for me.
With the exceptions of the Norwich and Blackburn games, he's been really good in the appearances that I've seen him play. Excellent against Newcastle, Brentford, Villa and QPR away.
His range of passing is fantastic with the balls through to Dicko at Villa and Costa's goal at QPR really standing out. Very comfortable on the ball, always makes himself available to receive possession from our centre-halves and provides a bit of physicality.
Would like to see him as the deepest midfielder in a three of him, Price and Ronan.
The pace thing is played on way too much. I would rather have an intelligent footballer over one with pace. Speed of thought, especially for the position Saiss plays in is more important. Its handy if you can find players with both, but they are few and far between.
Agree 100% with Tring. He should be playing the deepest of our midfielders. He hasnt been anywhere near as bad as some make out, and on the flip side probably hasnt been as great as some make out either. Its been very difficult to judge a lot of our players with all the chopping and changing and instability in the team this season.
Id say you're being totally fair. I get the impression Lambert thinks the same, don't buy the "we're not playing him because he's going to the AFON" line at all.
Not writing Saiss of at all but he's dined out off his debut at Newcastle for too long for me.
I agree technically he is good and I want to be a fan of his sort of player, but it's almost like his legs are too long. He needs a couple of touches and a big turning circle to re-distribute the ball (which he obviously does brilliantly)
Lambert wants a high press and quick passing, and while I'm not Price's biggest fan that is what he does very well (the quick passing - not the high press, he's not mobile enough). He keeps the ball travelling and the team moving
Since Lambert wants us to play higher up the pitch I can see why Saiss doesn't fit in. Suspect he'll be off on loan after AFCON or in summer, before an 'undisclosed' deal to another French club
I agree, that 30-40 yard pass outside to costs vs qpr away when costa scored was awful defenisve football.
I would say the complete opposite. He's the only player in our CM who can ping a pass with pace.
Really like Saïss. Hope he makes it with us.
It is funny isn't it?
A player like Saiss would join most other clubs, get a run of games and become a star and move to the premier league.
At Wolves he gets to have two mediocre games, gets binned, we revert to those we already know are not good enough and remarkably some fans actually think it's the way forward.
Only at Wolves eh!
wasnt he in the team under Lambert and then missed the last couple of games, probably us knowing he would be off to AFCON?
Couldn't agree more.
It's almost like there's a culture at the club 'If yow do not run more than 15k a game, yow will be binned off' - it's like it's scribed on every internal wall.
Pirlo wouldn't get a look in at Molineux.
Saiss in the Prem? Give over. Nowhere near that standard at the moment. Maybe after a run of two years in a top side if he develops well enough.
Reminds me of Matic, not the quickest or the most stylish of runners but is quick enough to get around and intercept, likes to put his foot in and when he is on the ball, looks for a quick forward pass. I think we expect too much from players, Milijas was quality on the ball, better than anyone else at the club, a goal scoring midfielder who should have been pushed further forward in a 3 man midfield. Yet we played him deep, expecting him to get around the pitch like Karl Henry making tackles, when that wasn't his game at all.
At this level you're never going to get the perfect midfielder who can score, create and protect the back four so you have to get partnerships going instead, try and get 3 players who can do those three things. Saiss is a good base to start with, play him deepest, then add a player who can get around the pitch quickly and then someone who can open teams up in the final third.
He already played in Ligue 1, they didn't seem to have any problem beating our premier league stars so far this season.
He is a good player who needs to be in the first team every week. I wonder whether we have the answer to our CB problem right in front of our noses. Otherwise as has been said he can play the deep lying defensive midfielder role very well alongside Price or whoever. When he returns I hope Lambert gives him a proper chance. It would be very annoying indeed to see him sidelined. Losing Tex later this month presumably, is bad enough without any proper attempt to see what he can do.
So Morocco would win then.
Looks to be one to really divide opinions then, all the arguments above are reasonable but right now we just don't know. More than happy to see him in the side and a run of games to see how he turns out, we paid enough for him so there is obviously talent there. Sometimes certain foreign players, especially from the french leagues take a good 6-8 months to really flourish (seem to remember Drogba was pants in his first season) so if Lambert and us fans have a bit of patience then maybe he will really push on towards the end of the season or next year. I do have to say though he looked really leggy the couple of times I saw him play.
Whoever thinks he isn't a good player should find another hobby, because football is not for you. I'm dead serious.
The obsession with pace on this forum is ****ing ridiculous.
Like a lot of the new players signed, kind of disappointing.
It's too early to write him off yet. You have to give these lads from abroad more time to settle in and adapt.
Separate names with a comma.
