I see a certain Robbie Keane may be signing off his career at Shamrock Rovers after leaving the US. I think it would be a very shrewd move to get him involved at Wolves on the coaching (attack) side of things at some point if he was interested. In fact even for half a season he would be an inspiring addition to the squad as a player/coach. He has a mere 146 international caps and sixty something international goals to his account and although we were stupid enough to sell him at 18 (without a sell on clause) he must still have some affection for the club.
He is arguably the greatest player bar Bully we have had since the 1970s and the kind of inspirational figure the club would do well to bring into the fold for the future. Just a thought Mr Thelwell/Mr Lambert. As a club we have never been very good at utilising the skills and experience of our former 'greats' after they retire as players on the coaching side (Stan Cullis didn't do too bad). Of course only a few are cut out for such a role but I reckon if it suited Robbie he would be an inspiring guy to have in and around the squad in whatever role was thought appropriate.

Give it up, he doesn't want to come here. He doesn't give two ****s about Wolves.

While I'm not fond of another Keane thread, to say he doesn't give two ****s about Wolves would just be untrue.

Really? Why bother. Yes he was fantastic for us but he patently has no interest in us anymore and the git has scored about 28 goals against us just to rub salt in the wound. I am not sure what I resent more, Robbie or the fans who pine for him back, if he played til he was 45 some would still suggest a swansong.

We have Tony Daley and Rob Edwards involved now, and I know Olofinjana often is at Compton but dont know in what role.
We tried with Iwelumo but he went after a few days..
Richards and Dougan had important roles some years back.

Keane was a good player, but dont think he will be a good leader and role model.

I think we should just move on and leave the memories behind. An unnecessary cost which could be utilised elsewhere.

Correct. The best players don't always make good coaches.

Going slightly off topic, I wonder in what capacity we use sports psychologists?

He'd be perfect for us at this level for 6-18 months and no doubt his experience and leadership will be great for our younger players.

Derby have just paid £2m for Nugent, I'd bet on Keane to outscore him over the next 6-18 months at this level.

I don't know where all this is coming from. Does Robbie have any proven record as a coach? It seems to me this is all based on him playing for us for a while when he was a teenager. That really isn't a great cv for him to coach our squad.

He can pass on his experience and knowledge of breaking into the game as a young kid to our young players without being a coach though, they could still learn a lot from him, especially the forwards. I think he would still be a good player at our level for another 18 months.

I don't care about Robbie Keane coming back to work here but I do care about the crap coaching of our forwards. If ever there was a time to recognise the need for a specialist forward/striker coach, it is now! How on earth in 2017, after a full calendar year of our strikers not managing double figures between them*, can we continue in this way? It's the same with set pieces, there's simply no plan.
    * subject to correction.
PS If BOD does that dead straight shot of his on the ground and past the post again cos he doesn't know how to curl it, I am going to walk on the pitch at Norwich and show the ****er how to do it! FFS sake he has two types of shot and that is it - the other variant being the same but at the goalies head.

Considering he's not played for a team as bad as Wolves since he left 20 years ago, what makes you think he knows ANYTHING about what we need right now?
Just because somebody once walked down your street doesn't mean you have to chase them for the rest of your life.

Well since two of his goals or at least one curled in I'm sure he can do it. He's just never been consistent at scoring so why people expect different now is strange.

But please by all means show him how it's done

    So that's a YES then. I'll e-mail him.

Boy we have a cynical population on here. How on earth could Robbie Keane have anything to offer our spectacular goalscoring forwards. Its nothing to do with sentiment but getting in the best possible exemplars into the club.

As a player, Robbie Keane is at least 3 years post his sell by date!! Ask any ROI supporter!

As a coach, I know nothing about him. However I'm liking the look of PL and think he'll be getting on with his plans without any outside help thank you!!
