U18 & U21 news and info...

which means they're off normally

I've given up caring about these kids anymore. The system is broken
I’d say highly likely but I’ve not given up hope just yet.

Clearly Senyah is off, but players have missed the scholarship events previously so Aneke and Abbey maybe were elsewhere, however given Abbey’s prominence at the end of last season, I’d wager it was a desperate last gasp effort to try and keep him

We do every year, might as well fold the academy and just have a B team like Brentford

Never thought I would say this but I'm beginning to think the same. We are leaking all of our best talents barring a few exceptions.

Unless the FA start getting hold of this problem then more of this will happen.

The participation rates and subsequent quality of player will inevitably fall through the floor.

They won't upset the big 6, especially while the country is producing players, they don't care who they come from. Unless they get a revolt from teams demanding change, it won't happen

I think it's too late already.

I've seen this in other sports, it's almost killed the cricket pathway for kids from anything but posh backgrounds or nepotism and football will go this way if it's not careful.

he said it was a keeper didn't he? I assume he meant Zach Trinder who has been heavily linked with Liverpool.

I'll be honest, my first interpretation was Zach Trinder due to the GK reference, however having reviewed it several times since, he mentioned a players high demands and then talks about a GK, so separate. Had they been linked I think he'd have just said GK rather than player and then GK.

He talks about a players agent having high demands: "we received last week, demands for one of our U16 players from an agent. We have a decision to make on that agent walking that player out of our football club, whether we invest about £2m in salary and an agents fee of £300k to retain a player that we've had in our academy for a long time. And that player can just walk out"

then says:

"We have an outstanding young GK in our academy at the moment, and we resisted offers from a big clubs last summer because we could at the stage of the cycle he is in with the academy. We expect to lose him this summer and we can't prevent that"

He also uses the words "had in our academy for a long time" - for me that's not Zach Trinder OR Kwasi Senyah. Zach joined from Blues in 2023 & Kwasi came from Coventry in 2024. For me he's referring to Jerome Abbey

As I've said in an earlier post, I've not seen Jerome Abbey, Kwasi Senyah or Aaron Aneke in the scholarship pics, although I think Aneke might be ok, the other two look definitely set to leave. (Zach Trinder is only 14, so wouldn't be on scholarship yet)

EDIT: I can confirm Aaron Aneke is a Wolves scholar

interesting, and thanks for this!

Losing Jerome Abbey, after the fanfare of last season, would feel like a big loss.

How much will we get for Senyah?

we brought him from Cov... I hope it's a couple of million like we got for that midfielder we lost to Liverpool a few years ago.

Getting Mane minutes will be key in keeping players IMO, we need to give more player minutes too. Hopefully, Wes can get some action in the cup games, along with any others we had at the club

As much as I love this club if I knew a talented youngster I would not try to persuade him to come here unless there was a big change. I have no confidence in the present coaches we have at the level. I would incest in bringing in the best coaches who can inspire a youngster into believing he could see his career advance under a superior coaching system. Apart from Mane how long is it since we have produced a really talented player?

There is a horribly unfortunate typo/predictive text issue in your penultimate sentence.

Mane wasn’t even produced here, it was Rochdale

We don’t seem To be doing anything for the u18/u21 squad - not even any cheap punts , looks like we will just be pushing players up the age group?

Don't seem to to be making any additions. U21's have lost quite a few players.

for the u18s we've just had our biggest scholar intake for quite a while.

And I think we have c.52 players across both the u18s & u21s with 2 less competitions for the u21s to play in this season.
