U18 & U21 news and info...

Did all these promising youngsters suffer from acl injuries?

Just saw a random Facebook clip of a Dylan scicluna assist for western Sydney wanderers titled “assist of the season” - he and his brother were really highly rated for us at one point, he’s now 21 and playing back in Australia

I used to watch a lot of German youth Football in the 1980s in the Hamburg area and it was technically miles ahead of over here. The players had full control of the ball & how to use it. If this is still tre, which I think it is, then we will prosper more than we have in recent years. In the short term I would like to see Preusser bring over some young talent from Germany to our academy & Rui Silva to do likewise from Portugal.
I think Rui has enough to do with the first team without asking him to scout as well

I fear our youth scouting network is now shorn of any quality when not long ago it was a good productive talent line.

Some of our players in the academy have been out for months and months with injury. Reiss Bowen started the season well but not seen for well over 6 months after injury and also had long spells injured the season before. Luke ODonnell hasn't played for well over a year. Leon Chiwome out for over a year and then hamstring injury after 2 games back. Ty Barnett seems to spend long spells out injured. Nathan Fraser not played for well over a year.

Anyone know the latest on any of the above players?
I believe Luke O'Donnell is in early rehab so he'd be targeting a pre season return. Nathan Fraser has been talked about loads already but seems a long way off and is looking like a shadow of himself currently (build wise).... really hope he can recover.

I thought Fraser was supposed to have given up football & joined the Royal Marines?

Two hip operations according to something I read on X but who knows. He hasn't played for around 15 months now.

Post-Brexit visa rules make that last sentence much more difficult to fulfil.

Decent prospect GW ?

I like him…. I think he’s taken a little while to adjust to u21s (compared to how he was at u18s) but it’s all too easy to forget he’s only 17 as he’s been in the u21s for 2.5 seasons now.

He's also small compared to the midfielders he’s often up against in this age group where size often outdoes skill., but he holds his own

However, what he does he does well. He’s very quietly consistent… a Jonny Otto in DM if you like.

As he continues to develop in this age group I’d like to see him get fwd a bit more if allowed as he’s scored some belters at u18s and he’s not had the chance yet to show that yet

I like him too, think he's an Adam Wharton/ Jack Price type.

I hope he has a growth spurt or at least increases his physical strength as that's the only thing holding him back imo.

Nice and tidy on the ball and with a bit more confidence in his ability he could play more of those defence splitting balls instead of being a bit safe, which is understandable when he's playing with some of the more established players.

Crazy that Luke O'Donnell has been out injured for over 15 months now. Still no sign of Reiss Bowen either. Missed most of last season and out injured since after the first few games of this season. Sad really as both supposed to be top prospects.

Any news on Enso and Chiwome? Both pulled hamstrings a few weeks back and both so unlucky after a year out with knee injuries .

Both serious injuries I think, would be surprised to see either before the end of season.

U21's lost their play off game away at bournemouth 1-0. Adam Harrison who is a trialist from newcastle played in goal for us.
