Summer 2026 Transfer Thread

Yeah its a bit of an overblown "problem" as i see it
We have enough HG players as it stands if you count the youngsters coming through
Ofc we havent seen the retained lists yet but at worse we may need a couple more additions imo
We do need more homegrown talents capable of being on the pitch though.
With a match day squad of 20, from whom 5 substitutes can be drawn, we need 16 minimum first team ready players who are fit. Whilst that leaves up to 4 spaces for youngsters, the minimum 7 homegrown in a match day squad would give a minimum of 3 first team ready Homegrown players.
Allowing for injuries and suspensions nearer 6 first team ready Homegrown would be more comfortable.

We also need the type of team rebuild that creates a fairly stable core with just a few of Mendes starlets to move on rather than the current no core and everyone is here to move on.

Notice also how the André contract and Trippier news was used conveniently to big up Edwards and help silence the end of season criticism and call for change which again could've further influenced ST sales

Not that I dont think Edwards deserves credit for both but the club made absolutely sure to milk it to the fullest...
But maybe I'm just cynical.

Totally agree
What im saying is though at the moment we have 4/5 HG in the team if they stay or are added like Trippier so there is no great problem
Just add another couple decent ones and we are good

I might be bringing thick ( not unusual) but I have Hugo Mane Rodrigo as HG through age ?

Yes..
Surely a coincidence..

Not for Edwards but I am all for bigging up the club. We are more likely to bring in decent players if we had negotiators who had poisitivity to exciite a player to want to join a club on the up unlike last season where we were turned down by so many. They knew we were going downhill.
However I cannot see that in Edwards. If we want to go up with a good side RE has never shown hje has that ability

No problem in bigging up the club or pretending we're going places to potential signings.
Not so sure they're swayed by the words about Edwards "massive ' influence in the signing of Edwards or Andrés words of praise.
Not because these words doesn't count but because they are actually part of a similar process themselves rather than reading about it so can make their own judgement

Patterson is alright the problem is he like sa flaps at corners and crosses

We need to find a keeper to command the box

Cant fault either shot stopping

Infact I think sa is one of the best shot stoppers in prem

Especially in todays game where every corner is basically a war in the 6-yard box. Most teams will be researching long throws given how effective they've been too.

I know PGMOL have said they're gonna try and fix it next season but I'm doubtful.

Yeh they might but you need that big commanding presence dont care if he can play with feet

Shot stopper who can kick a ball straight on long kicks but will be vocal and command his box on crosses and corners

Very limited keepers can do this hwoever

I recall that Blues fans rated Doyle highly, and thought he had been used poorly over the 2nd half of the season.
Some Blues fans felt that but if their forum is anything to go by, he's more highly rated here than he is there.

6ft 9 !

Ex Dutch international. 33 I think? Would be an excellent signing .

I’m guessing Noppert is signed if we are playing Heerenveen in a friendly preseason

Oh I remember that club name, wasn’t that the club we signed that Dutch winger from whose name escapes me …. Van Le Para… or near enough???

We’ve had a few Dutch, Stefan Postma, Nigel Londwik, but I’d managed to erase that fellow from my memory, he was the Dutch equivalent of Michael MacIndoe, constantly berating everyone else instead of doing his job.

Not sure why Edwards deserves credit. Professional footballers will do what is best for them.

Noppert although a good shot stopper has had a poor season & his distribution/passing isnt the best. Think he was good 2 years ago?

Would Patterson be a better signing? Another keeper whose confidence looks shot & who has made some silly mistakes.

Their manager was full of praise, I went to St Andrews against Blackburn and he was one of the better players, was on the majority of the set pieces, didn’t give the ball away and looked to play forwards.

He lacks a bit of pace, but as a sitting ball recycling holding midfielder in the championship, don’t think this matters.

He’s a footballer’s footballer with a good pedigree.
No chance he'll fit in here, then.

Rajiv Van La Parra. Still only 34! Half brother to the Wijnaldum brothers and cousin of the Drenthe brothers. Very definitely a football family!

Someone on X posting we're in for Dael Fry and Targett, would you take?

Looks like Dael Fry is out of contract, so nobody has to phone Steve Gibson. Seems like just the sort of signing we might expect, solid, experienced Championship player, English, out of contract, Edwards linked, unexciting.

32 appearances, 1 yellow card, 3 goals.
He would have been one of our joint top scorers.
€4m per transfer market.
