Liverpool Verdict

I was driving home during stoppage time and literally started screaming when I heard Andre's shot went in, congrats to Rob and the lads. They got the setup and game plan spot on

At 1-0 up, I convinced myself it would be the usual late goals, Liverpool 2-1, an unfair result for such a dogged intense display.
Then Bellegarde blunders to gift it to Salah, all but guaranteeing my Nostradamus-ness.
Then that happens instead.
How lovely.

A remarkable evening's football to say the least. Overall we showed very little quality indeed but, due to the way we defended, neither did Liverpool except for that period just after the break. That's testament to the mentality, work rate and organisation of the players. And, of course, to the coach who has made them this organised.

It's weird, we seem to be doing exactly what Villa have been accused of all season; we're creating very little indeed but converting a remarkable number of our chances at the moment. Surely that streak can't hold.

Can it? :)

One thing we have done very well against Villa and Liverpool, and Arsenal to some extent, is contain teams. Villa and Liverpool never really looked like scoring. This was a point also made by Joe Hart and Steven Gerrard on TNT. It does sacrifice our attacking play, but most of our better players are defensive. Apparently Arsenal, Villa and Liverpool played very badly against us, but a bif part of that was that fact that we really contained them and didn't allow them to create lots of chances.

Fair play to Edwards, with a very limited squad he has got us 7 points from Arsenal, Villa and Liverpool. No one would have seen that coming; I certainly didn't. Another very big positive is that these players are still giving their all, even though we are more or less down. It would have been easy to have given up, but they are fighting for the shirt. Credit to the players, but huge credit for that must also go to Edwards for that.

The media will spin it as Liverpool having an off night - as they did for the Villa game. But 2 top 5 teams coming to the Mol and not performing? We're doing something right and we're finally getting some meaningful points on the board.
8 games to go, stranger things have happened...
Tbf Gerard said we deserved it straight after the game. I was fully expecting dogged Wolves comments, but they never came. But on your last point i don't think they have. If we get out of this, which we won't, it'll eclipse the greatest escape ever known to man!!

Similar verdict to Friday, in that Joao Gomes is the b0llocks and the kind of player I will keep watching when he leaves.

Our substitutions made all the difference and credit to RE for that.
Brilliant subs, great game plan. Kept it tight, more or less smothered Liverpool and contained them. This meant we attacked very little but made changes at exactly the right time, which gave us at least an opportunity to score and get something from the game. We took those opportunities.

Liverpool, Villa and Arsenal make it 3 top teams, not 2.

Let’s play them every week!

Andre and Joao were tremendous. Great win. There isn’t a team, apart from Albion, who I enjoy beating more than them. However, leave off the ‘Sign on…’ *******s, I thought we’d grown out of that.

Was the quietest I've heard that chant, and only once. Once too many. But overall our fans were great tonight.

Bank of three central defenders with the three of Gomes, Gomes and Andre in front made it very difficult for Liverpool.

Wringing everything he can from the squad, well done RE, well done lads.

Brilliant win, hard fought.

The team is organised, hard working and well drilled.

I think it's time to give Rob some credit.

J Gomes man of the match him and Andre were running on fumes for the last 15 mins.

Let's knock these cretins out of the cup on Friday.

O M G, times 100.
