Good sleuthing. This definitely dispels any lingering notion this was genuine. Especially given the Vitor list has Arokodare on it, whom VP expressly made clear to Jackson he didn't want, and Wolfe as his first choice LWB, when by most accounts it seems Vitor didn't get a single first choice target besides Arias, who isn't even on that list.
Indeed good work. Quite incredible and speaks volumes as to why VP lost the plot. Still remember someone at the club saying “Arias is not a Cunha replacement”. We never went on to replace Cunha. Absolutely incredible.
Even dumbing it down, we lost the output of Cunha, Rayan, Semedo and to a degree Sarabia, 3 of which have gone to champions league teams (admittedly United only made top 4 this season). And instead replaced them with a number of bang average players, a player from Brazil and a young kid from Spain. Completely unbelievable and self inflicted.
Re the forum; I was impressed by Shi. I like his honesty in saying the liquidator would be an easy win. This tells me he recognises what it may do for the fans but more importantly, that the other 99.9% of his job and objectives are not easy wins and will require serious work.
Edwards I have a little more sympathy for after the forum, albeit I’m still not convinced. He has come into an awful situation. His record is not going to be great having managed us and Luton and despite what influence managers have, there are factors outside of their control which will have an effect. I like him as a person and don’t think he’s as bad as some people make out, however I’m not just not convinced he has the knowledge, experience or personality to deliver what is needed next season. I also don’t like his lack of accountability for the fact we are bottom of the table. He does not accept that the players and himself are bottom of the table. But then also suggests he has maxed the players out meaning he can’t get anymore from them. That is clearly complete self-preservation absolving himself.
To sit there and say he will talk to the boys on the first day of pre season and believe what he is telling them, is a really strange thing to say.
I don’t like how he says the players at Luton didn’t believe him. If not, why not. You are there to instil that belief?
But then I acknowledge again that you can be a byproduct of your circumstances. Even lopetegui, who I rated highly, was not willing to work with the team he had, despite being a lot better than the team Rob has ti work with.
All in all, I think trusting him and MJ for the most critical period in our clubs history for a long long time, is incredibly naive and bordering on suicide. He may well do it, but he had no concrete evidence himself to suggest he could turn this around. And factually he has maybe 6 months at Luton and 2 months at Middlesbrough to suggest he MAY be able to do a reasonable job.
Therefore, I still hope he goes but wish him all the best and hope he goes on to have a decent career.
