Fer López

Agreed, it's just a wonder strike.

It had an xg of 0.03 so 97 times out of 100 this doesn't result in a goal and is instantly forgotten

But if there's a chance to criticise Munetsi...
good point. For me, wasnt so much bad defending, just a good strike that needs to be perfect to go in from there, and was.
There was other much clearer chances they had from much worse defending that didn't go in, so no one talks about it.

The players we have, and the way we play we are going to give chances to the opposition. We're not the full control Nuno team.
As long as our attack keeps producing we're just going to have to out gun the opposition. At least we're entertaining!

Have not checked in for a while, fascinating to see all the Fer fans now. Some saying he is worth 100 Mil. What happened to all the people saying how he can't play and he isn't strong enough? I understand this is the 2nd division but can't help to wonder what he could have done last year if given a real chance? Kid has serious talent and the fact that coaches here couldn't see it says more about them than Fer. It is a real pleasure to watch him and the sky is the limit for him.

Noone in the championship is worth 100 million.

He has been brilliant though so far.

Look back in this thread. Quite a few on here saying those things last year!!

A few were but let's be honest most here did not think he had the skills to be successful here. Yes I know he is playing in a different division but he is a tremendous young talent.

I imagine the first of 9 this season.
Might only be 7.
Never know, Jimenez could get a hat trick of pens against the ****, Mane might knick one at some point.
But yes it will be at least 7.

All Rauls penalties will be won by Fer, following brilliant runs into the penalty area.

Manes goal will be assisted by Fer, after beating 4 defenders and laying it on a plate.

He is a year older too. People just miss this all the time; I cannot comprehend why. Players with different backgrounds, attitudes, injuries, physical characteristics, etc. and who play in different positions, develop at different rates. If he had played in our team in the Prem. last year he could be shot now.

I am delighted he was nowhere near the squad last year. We are now reaping the benefit of him being away from it all.

This man is forever a cult hero, with him getting today’s winner.

We need a chant sorted for him and soon!
The ABBA Fernando one is the best effort I have seen so far.

In his interview today he says the way the team plays suits him better than last year as we play attacking football now. Basically he was not suited to Edwards bore-fest football.

Having a coach who has confidence in him was a great start....

I’m not sure it was a trust thing. He was like a boy caught in headlights at times last season (not a criticism- it was inevitable given his age, lack of experience and the unforgiving nature of the EPL).

He did well back in Spain, but a Premier League relegation dogfight (or whimper) is different gravy.

Honestly, I think sending him away for the second half of the season was a smart move.

We’ve seen how expectation can crush young players

He was better off being away from the negativity - it protected him.

Credit to him. He is a superstar in the making.

Let’s hope that we get an actual manager in who can:
a) see he is the most talented player at the club
b) use his man management skills to motivate Fer to be up for the championship challenge
c) develop a formation and style of play that gets the best out of him at this point in his career, without hindering other talent in the squad.

If Rob Manager is still here it will be ‘fer doesn’t run enough and he doesn’t have a blokey nickname (such as Channy) so he’s out on his ear’
told you so!

Absolutely, completely obvious to anyone that didn’t have some weird obsessive dislike of Rob Edwards.

It’s all worked out pretty well in the end and as you say credit to Fer, he’s shown tremendous maturity and what we’re seeing now is mainly down to him and his attitude to his own development.

I mean, he also has a BCD winner now. That’s a guaranteed line in a song.

Jay Bothroyd never got one.

Would be some difficult rhyming right there I suppose.
Haemorrhoid? He was mostly a pain in the ****.
Hardly slips off the tongue, unless a fan of a particularly niche pursuit.

Back on topic, O’Hara got one, and he was a ****. For an equaliser too.

Some of us have a very different opinion and think he should have been given minutes last year unlike those who loved Edwards.

i didn’t think much of Edwards at all, however Lopez wouldn’t have made any difference last season and has himself said playing in Betis has helped him toughen up which is clear to see.

It’s possible to not rate Edwards and still agree with the decision to loan Lopez out.
