Not sure Mane didn't get in for anything but being English and working 'ard.
 
Let's just remind ourselves at the time of the signing it was declared a masterstroke as Fer Lopez would have supposedly cost more if we had waited.
It's one the reasons I doubt Mendes will supply us with talent that's ready for the first team..
Hopefully Fer Lopez will come good under a Mendes coach..
 
You would think we will get teams sitting back against us (unlike last year) and we will have more of the ball.

We need players who can pick a forward pass and play through teams sitting back. At the moment, Fer is probably our best bet in the squad at doing that.

I could be wrong, but Cesar's style to involve us keeping the ball anyway, its just a relentless press when we dont have it. But yeah he's going to want a player who can pick that pass, fingers crossed that is Fer
 
Fer Lopez played 81 minutes against Barcelona at the Nou Camp in April, in the engine room, in a game in which Celta were narrowly edged out by the best team in Spain. He was ranked by WhoScored.com as Celta's best player on the day. He also had a 94.4% pass completion rate, one of the highest out of any player on the pitch.

He also played in 23/24 games for which he was available for Celta, a side who finished 6th in La Liga. The idea that he isn't ready to play at Championship level, against the quality levels of Lincoln, Preston, Charlton and co, for a side that will probably dominate possession, is just peak Molineux Mix for me.

People seem to have a weirdly anachronistic view of that division, like it's full of hatchet men who will both kick Fer from pillar to post, and also run rings round him. In reality, at least according to one study I found: the average outfielder covers more ground in La Liga than the Championship, both overall and in short, intense bursts, and it's not even close. You don't get by at that level in central midfield by being lazy.

He has some talent, but doesnt work hard enough & doesnt understand that he has to play for the team for 90 mind when the opposition are trying to stop you! he is not a £21M (or whatever we paid for him) talent, at the moment.
If he develops, he might be, & i hope the new boss can unlock that, but he isnt a starter yet. By a long way.

If he performs well for us this season, no one will be more pleased than me, & i will put my hand up. BUT, whilst talented there is not enough evidence from his performances SO FAR that he has the heart & work rate to be a major & regular influence on matches in the UK.

There’s a big difference between ability and availability, between technique and application. He has ability and technique in abundance, lets see him produce the other two (and not just in the hope of getting a move)
 
Rumours still flying around about him wanting to go back to Spain but Jorge & Cesar blocking the move. Not sure how we can expect to get the best out of a player, who clearly doesnt want to be here.

Guessing Cesar is going to make him feel wanted which is the exact opposite of what Deadwoods did.

Didn’t that’s story quote that he was happy to stay and wasn’t going to push for a move? He certainly didn’t look unhappy in training pics.
 
as for Lopez, remain to be convinced.

he’s never ever in a midfield two in this league, so he interesting to see if he’s trusted to play at ten or a more impact sub role

He must have thought why the **** have I come here, when Vitor kept picking Hwang and Munetsi every game.

Both can be right.

a) Fer is a good player
b) it was the correct decision to let him spend the latter part of last season on loan in a comfortable/familiar environment
 
To me Lopez looked like a kid playing men's football last season which shouldn't have been the case given his age. So I can understand why Pereiera and Edwards were reluctant to play him. Hopefully he's benefited from the loan, remember he'd only had a handful of senior games for Celta before he joined us so a good half season in La Liga should've gone some way to toughening him up
 
I think that with the season lost it made more sense to develop Fer in a place where he was going to get senior games in an environment where he could thrive. It was an intelligent decision by the club to manage the development of the player.

The second half of last season was as toxic as it gets. Terrible environment for developing a young player.

Here's hoping he can find his feet this season. He's skilled enough that he should be able to adapt if he has the right mentality.

I am very suspicious of the Cesar hire, but I think it would be a huge point in the manager's favour if he could get Fer going and being a major contributor to the team.
 
Fer reminds me of Trincao - who is currently linked with big PL clubs again.

Would love to see him back and tear up Championship. Expect to see him move on and have a positive career around Europe.
