Fer López

Championship or La Liga with the possibility of a Europa league winners medal must have been a really tough choice.
Then why not just stay in La Liga in the first place? Do you think he came here to win things lol.

Leaving your comfort zone then running back to it at the first instance says more about him than not.

Judging by the Fabio thread we have a few more years left with this thread yet .

Neither of em deserve the time and effort of all of us ....

Should only be mentioned in Jeff's big **** ups .

The kid imo will go onto be a better player than Mane. The only reasons he didn’t make it this season were two managers with negative mindsets trying not to lose ahead of trying to win games and two managers not willing to risk a creative so called ‘luxury’ player…instead picking the likes of Hwang and Munetsi ahead of him because they run a lot. That worked well!
The only way he was gonna improve was by getting minutes and criminally he didn’t get them. No other player in our squad sees that far corner in the Europa League game let alone has the quality to find it from the edge of the box with the outside of their foot. None!
Question is…who got you more excited when in possession of the ball? Who created more chances? Who had vision and technical ability on the ball? Who always looked to pass forwards and drive with the ball?….Lopez or Hwang/Munetsi?….
In his own words he may have not been ready for the physicality and pace of the Prem but then Cunha, RAN, Semedo and even some Premier League legends all struggled in their first seasons! The difference?…They had managers who backed their talent and stuck by them…they didn’t give up on them after a measly 200 minutes of football!!!
I’m not saying he should have necessarily started every game but the fact that he was always overlooked as a sub when we needed a creative spark in a game with even Chirewa on one occasion getting on ahead of him, was just criminal!!
Bring him back, toughen and bulk him up in preseason and let him rip the Champ a new one or send him out on loan again because we can’t be bothered to nurture his talents?…unfortunately I think we all know the answer to that one.

You know Spain have won 9 of the last 16 Europa league finals right?

And smashed to bits, c'mon man, lets not be daft here
Read what I said and come back to me. The top echelons of La Liga are brilliant but the drop off to the also rans is massive compared to here.

Mid table (12th) in both leagues is Newcastle and Girona. Newcastle beat them 9 times out of 10

How has he gone running back at the first instance? If we’d given him minutes he’d still be here.
Well I’m fairly sure no one MADE him go back to Celta. Crazy idea but you know he could actually have backed himself like so many others have in football over the years and thought “I’ll proove them wrong” put his head down in training and forced it. Regardless of what you (or I) think of Edwards do you think he’d put a supremely talented player to one side if he thought he could contribute? He was under severe pressure at one point of going himself so that wouldn’t make sense.

Let’s face it, he didn’t want the fight

Pretty hard to toughen up a player who doesn’t want to be here and has already rejected the chance to acclimatise himself to the English football with a championship loan. Get his poster off the bedroom wall, he isn’t wearing a Wolves shirt again

Totally agree ....look at the kid at Arsenal , 9 stone soaking wet , but being introduced to the demands of the PL and already showing enough that he will become a top player ....and he hasn't had to adapt to another culture , food and being detached from any family etc .....

Ummmm, Sevilla finished 12th in La Liga when they won the Europa a couple of years ago......

No, it means there is strength in depth in La Liga and it is a total myth there isn't.
I didn’t say there wasn’t just not to the extent of the EPL. Which is why the likes of McBurnie and Burke played there when premier league clubs wouldn’t touch them.

He wanted minutes and the chance came to go back to his old club and play in Europe above literally playing on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke! Who knows what the options were in the champ anyway?…maybe he didn’t like the options put to him?…
His poster is right next to my dart board with your face on it dude….helps me throw straight ;-) LOL!

Probably should have stayed at Celta last season then. I reckon he’s enjoyed us quadrupling his salary though

He was given the chance to play in the Premier League at a young age with a good mate of his already here. Pretty sure if you had been given the chance you would have too? A pay increase yes but not sure it would have been the be all and end all for him. He wanted to do well and prove himself in the biggest league in the world. He was and has been prevented from doing so by our two managers who prefer a more conservative approach to trying to win games. It’s not entirely down to him not being ready.

He could have stayed and fought for a place but his first instinct was to run home, that’s entirely on him.

He wasn’t prevented from anything. He started the season above Mane who did fight his way in. Before going on loan he ended up behind Rodrigo Gomes who again forced his way in.

You don’t just get given a free pass because you got brought for big money, granted he didn’t get much time but the time he did get he looked way off it. He could have followed Ronaldo’s example, when he signed for Utd they wanted to send him straight back out on loan but he said he wanted to stay and fight for a place. The kids going to have a very ordinary career if he runs home everytime he doesn’t get picked. It’s elite sport, get up and fight for it.

See this is what I don’t get when people say he was way off it. Yes he may have given the ball away a few times (tell me somebody that hasn’t this season) and defensively he wasn’t the best but creatively whenever he was on the pitch he shone imo. He always showed for the ball, played forwards, spotted runs, dribbled with the ball, switched play effortlessly and got the assist of the season against Leeds. On another day could have had a hat trick of assists in one half against Chelsea too with better finishing from Tolu. Guess it just shows how we all see the game differently.

Saying he shone is the most OTT thing I’ve read about him. He had a good half against Leeds and the rest is pretty forgettable. If you made a highlight reel of his wolves time it wouldn’t make a minute.

Rodrigo Gomes did more in 10 mins

Why is it that when anybody has an opinion that doesn’t match yours you dig at them? It’s a forum mate….people will have differing opinions. Celta Vigo who aren’t too too shabby obviously agree with my OTT opinion eh? Genuinely feel like whatever my opinion is you’ll go the other way! LOL!

That may well be true but Celta are presently just one place outside La Liga's top quartile and are Europa Quarter Finalists, matching our performance in Europe when we were at our finest - not to mention beating us so comfortably in this pre-season they may as well have been asleep. And Fer Lopez is now playing for them every week.

How far up the Premier League table do you reckon you have to go before you could definitely say the English side would win? Do Brentford (7th) or Everton (8th), with all their extra Premier League huff and puff, definitely beat Celta over two legs? I don't think the Premier League is particularly good below a certain cut-off point either.

What part of that is a dig? I’ve offered an opinion same as you.

Oh believe me you don’t occupy my head space for some kind of opinion war. I just think (ie my opinion) that your obsession with a player who’s shown nothing apart from one assist yet is being made out like our biggest ever mistake is baffling

Think we just need to agree to disagree from now on eh mate? You’ve made numerous digs at me in the past etc and even today about taking down his poster to add to previous ones. Edwards was our biggest mistake anyway not loaning out Lopez….;-) LOL! Have a good one Buddy…if you don’t mind me calling you that?….;-) LOL!

I think Lopez was ready for the premier league, just not as a starter yet. I think Vitor and Rob have handled him poorly tbh. We have shown we can nurture young players with how we have handled Mane, but i think Lopez and Lima should both have had more game time.
